I had my 34 week appointment on Thursday and when the MW took my blood pressure it came out as 140/90. It was about 115/65 two weeks ago and has been around that throughout my pregnancy, so quite a jump. She got me to lay down and did her measuring and feeling around, listened to the baby's heartbeat and took some blood, then took it again when I'd been laid down for ten or fifteen minutes - 149/95 that time.

There was no protein in my urine and I'm not swollen anywhere, but she looked quite worried and told me to take it easy, and is coming to my home tomorrow to check it again. I took it myself earlier today with my dad's home bp monitor and got 150/95.

Has this happened to anyone else? Did you develop pre-eclampsia? I've been consulting Dr Google and convinced myself that I'm going to get it and will have to be induced early. What are the chances of that? Any help would be appreciated, I'm starting to panic and getting a bit excited about potentially having my baby soon

Mine jumped up at 35 weeks last pg. No protein until my due date and then they decided to induce me immediately. DD was born at 40+1 after a normal delivery. I was just monitored more closely between 35 and 40 weeks. Can't remember what my BP ended up as but I know bottom number was 110. My MW said induction would be last resort before 40 weeks and they'd try medication before that.

This pg my BP has gone up (but not dangerously) already so I'm on thrice-weekly monitoring.

If its just high blood pressure there is medication they can give you if need be to lower it and to help you bake your little one a bit longer, or they are really worried they might suggest you go into hospital to be monitored for a bit.

They'll be worried in case the proteins do occur as well as the high BP. I know its difficult but try not to get too stressed about this, the key thing is they are monitoring you and so they will catch it if you do end up developing pre-eclampsia.

I developed pre-eclampsia late on in my pregnancy (picked up in routine 39 wk appointment) I had high blood pressure and 4 plus protein in my urine and given I was 39 weeks, they just kept me in, put me on medication for blood pressure, monitored my urine and started induction. I ended up having a fairly quick labour under synoticin and had a healthy baby boy.

I know it's scary, but remember they're aware that High BP is an issue and they will make sure you get the right treatment - and not all High BP develops into pre-eclampsia, my childminder developend High BP midway through her pregnancy and was put on blood pressure medication for the remainder of her pregnancy and went on to have a healthy baby girl at term.

Thank you. I'm hoping it's only a bp issue but my MW did say that sometimes they can pick up the high bp first, and the protein/swelling can come a bit later. I'm trying not to worry about it given that I haven't been diagnosed with anything and just going off of one appointment, but I was Googling it last night and read a lot about stillbirths, or women being induced right away and having their babies prematurely. Although I suppose 35 weeks isn't that early. Or maybe that's just me getting impatient haha

My BP jumped at late 37 weeks - I was monitored, then sent home. At 38 weeks it was still high with trace urine, so I was kept in 2 nights then induced. Labour was complex due to difficult presentation if baby and I ended up with EMCS, but it ended up perfectly fine. I'm v glad they caught the high BP as my BP had been quite low throughout pregnancy so it was a real change.

Good luck!

I had high BP throughout mine which then went v high near the end with some protein in wee. I was sent in to a day unit for monitoring and then asked to come back 2 days later to be induced (on my actual due date). It was totally fine and went smoothly so ds must have been ready to arrive.

Mine went up around 35 weeks. No treatment other than needing to leave job before scheduled mat leave (was a teacher and gutted about not being able to properly say goodbye to my class). I also needed twice weekly monitoring and "bedrest" at home.

Didn't develop pre-e and DS was born healthily at 39w. However I did need to be put on bp tablets post -preg as my bp never normalized. But its likely I had undiagnosed high bp before pregnancy and pg just masked it.
