How are you supposed to feel after a sweep? Is this normal?

Had a sweep today at 39+1 and the doctor said she was going to give it her best shot as I'm due to be induced next week and hopefully want to avoid it if possible. It took her about 3 minutes but didn't hurt.

I had it done about 11am and straight away I started getting period type pains and feeling very uncomfortable.

The period pains have continued and I've been timing them on my phone, they seem to be every 6-7 minutes lasting about 50 seconds (although have had two 45 minute gaps between 'sessions' of period pains before they have started up again)

I also get them if I move, or when my toddler climbs all over me.

I haven't had any bleeding or a show or anything. I was 2-3cm dilated when she did the sweep.

It sounds like it might be working! This is exactly whats supposed to happen although it could all just die down. If its getting progressively worse, thats a good sign. Good luck!

Yes, i had contractions (period like pains) within an hour of my sweep (walked around a lot to kick things off - even went to Tesco!). I was advised not to stray too far from the hospital as the midwives believed i'd give birth that night.

Silly old stubborn me went home (45 minute drive way) and my waters broke as soon as i set foot in the door!

By the time we got back to the hospital, i was fully dilated and dd was born twenty minutes later.

Thank you for replying. Still getting period like pains but every 9 minutes or so, had a few hours sleep earlier and am trying to go back off but can't settle. I have a feeling they will ease off during the night (hopefully as I don't fancy trying to get childcare in place in the wee hours) but am hopeful they will come back tomorrow afternoon some time.
