Evening ladies, I'm looking for some advice. I'm 37 weeks and 3 days and I keep getting really sharp pains in my groin area, feels like a knife in my cervix, it's agony and stops me in my tracks and I have to hold onto something. I am getting them quite frequently now and they seem to be getting worse. This is my first pregnancy. Has any one else experienced this? Hope you can give me some reassurance! Thanks :)

I get stabby pains like that. It's usually baby doing it but worth mentioning to MW ( assume you'll be seeing her soon if you're 37 weeks).

I'm 37 weeks and get sharp stabbing pains in what I've assumed is my bladder. Sometimes i can feel the baby move when this happens. Have you noticed this? The pains also stop me in my tracks. I've got a midwife appt today and will mention it to her and report back if it would help. I guess we're not too too far from the end now! :-)

I'm 37 weeks and get this too! I had assumed it was because the baby had dropped lower and may be pressing on some nerves. Would be great to hear what you MW has to say.

I get this it's your babies head engaging most babies dont engage properly till labour has started, it happens quite frequently, oh the things we have to go through! Good luck ladies x

Does it mean the baby could be early? Would love that.

Hi Simba, I am 37wk+1 and I get the same thing. I've got the midwife tomorrow so going to ask her about it then (if I remember - pregnancy brain!!)

Like others have said though,I believe it's baby dropping, for first time mums this can happen quite early so I would settle in for the long haul just in case!! I'm quite happy for the baby to stay put a little while longer as the house is nowhere near ready!

Thanks ladies! A friend said it can be the babies head on the cervix! My baby is definitely engaging and when I use the Doppler I can tell he is moving down! We're nearly at the end now, not long left! Hope we all have nice, on time babies lol xx

Hello all,
My midwife said it was the baby's head engaging and she then felt my belly and confirmed that the baby was low down. She said it's perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. She didn't say it meant labour was likely to start very soon though she did later say, 'see you at 40 wks, unless you give birth first!'. Here's to straightforward, on-time births for us all! X
