So I am just going on 6 wks pregnant and have a team work night out tonight to celebrate the closing of a deal. I found out v early that I'm pregnant (before AF even due!). For my first pregnancy I didn't even know by now. Anyway have work night out and even though I've told them i being healthy and having a "dry January" - there will be a lot of pressure on to have at least one or two drinks with dinner.... What do you think? One bottle of beer or one glass of wine ok? As I said, for my first pregnancy I didn't know I was til 7 weeks and was definitely having a couple of drinks every week...

Thing is I reeeeaaallly don't want to cast any suspicions on me as my review is in 2 weeks and they are such bastards they'd give me no pay rise (if one is even coming) if they new I am pregnant again and money is tight at the mo as dp unemployed for past year!!!!

Wwyd? Thanks Smile

Drive there. You then have a perfect excuse.

josie81 · 23/01/2013 18:41

I would drive, if you can? Or schedule an early meeting the next day as an excuse to go early/not drink. Current advice is no alcohol at all in first trimester, so not worth the worry to have one drink.. Congratulations by the way!

chewingguminmyhair · 23/01/2013 18:44

Could you get out of it? I just wouldn't go!

omri · 23/01/2013 18:52

Thanks all! I've decided to just go with the no drinking January and not make a fuss of it. They know I'm not a big drinker anyway so should be fine. Suppose I'm just paranoid about the pregnancy!! Probably wouldn't think twice about it if I wasn't pg! It's just coz reviews are coming up and they screwed me last time round... Gggrrr!

Tell them you have a bladder infection. You'll be a trooper for turning up and no one (especially male colleagues) will delve any deeper. Have fun! And congratulations :)

lechatnoir · 23/01/2013 18:58

Oh no not the bladder infection excuse!! I've only ever known pregnant women use that Wink

nonpractisingVirgin · 23/01/2013 19:05

Don't join in a round and buy your own and pretend you're drinking. Either get alcohol free beer in a glass so looks like normal or get just coke/orange/tonic whatever and say it's got a spirit in...

FoofFighter · 23/01/2013 19:08

tell them not only are you doing dry january but you are actually doing the Cancer research fund-raising dry january - and get some donations off them!

DialMforMummy · 23/01/2013 19:08

Say you got a bit pissed last night, you broke your pledge and you can't face a drink today.

omri · 24/01/2013 00:41

Thanks all for the tips! Just back now it was fine - I should have mentioned there were only 6 of us on the night out so it wasn't going to be easy to sip the same glass of wine all night when they were trying to buy rounds of cocktails! So I just told them my friend had been over night before and we'd had way too much wine so now I was only going to be having lemonades tonight... Don't think they guessed anything. Yay!

Thanks again for responding earlier Smile
