So, I've had my sweep.. <drums fingers>

And other than a bit of discomfort from the prodding there seems to be nothing happening Sad. I had told myself not to get my hopes up but my hormones aren't for playing along. Having never had one before I have no idea what to expect and was thinking something would have happened by now if it was going to happen? MW said 48 hours but everyone else I spoke to said 12hours and it's been 9 already.

Baby ain't for budging yet, is (s)he..

I had nothing happen after my sweep until 16 hours later when I woke up with contractions - DS born 10 hours later!

So fingers crossed for you - get cleaning the house - that's what I did!!

Cleaning - that sounds a bit drastic Grin! Toddler just tucked up in bed and have had a busy afternoon so maybe...

I had two sweeps with my ds...5 days apart. Im afraid nothing really happened. I had to resort to desperate measures and erm. ..do what put the baby there in the first place! (all be it far far less romantic and sexy in the slightest..not to mention darn uncomfortable!)...6 hours later...hello labour!

how far along are you? I'm 40+3 and having sweep no. 5 tomorrow (early sweeps were authorised but frankly wish they hadn't bothered). I had some sort of expectations after the first one, but nothing happened at all!

I do think that pairing up a sweep with something else the same day such as acupuncture, cleaning, sexy time etc is a good idea though as at least keeps you busy and makes you feel you have done something to help things along.

DP works away during the week but may beg ask him to come home tomorrow eve to do his bit... Confused

Am 40+3 too! Aiming for VBAC so threat of ELCS is hanging over me as am not for induction. DH refusing to do the deed so that's out of the question am afraid Blush

Both my babies were born at 40+3 and 48 hours after sweeps! Fingers crossed.

I had my sweep yday I'm 40+2 I started having contractions (or maybe just BH) a few hours later, they got stronger and stronger, until 3am ...... When everything just stopped Angry

Persuaded DH to work from home today so I can pounce seduce him. However, I need to make myself more alluring.. Is it too early to start plying him with alcohol?

Should be getting my first sweep tomorrow. Have very high (unrealistic expectations!) as went into labour within 12 hours with DD1 and 6 hours after with DD2. I'll be so gutted if it doesnt work!!

Am going to bake some cakes this morning and then bounce on my birthing ball all afternoon. Goodluck all!

Im having a sweep at 40+3 tomorrow aswell. Bounced on ball and DTD (hilarious) last night and nothing, not even convinced baby is engaged.
DD came at 38+5 so im not used to this and i want this baby out now.

I may clean the bathroom Grin

If you're still waiting your best option would be to take a loooooong drive out to the middle of nowhere. That's bound to be when they'll make their appearance Wink

I had a sweep then went to the supermarket to do the weekly shop with my son. Nothing happened at all til the next morning. All quiet overnight but BFing Ds1 soon brought labour on. My cervix was very favourable apparently so I think it probably depends how close you are to naturally starting labour as to whether a sweep has any effect or not.

Been bouncing on the ball and off to do that again now as DH is hiding from me. Went to supermarket straight after sweep and have been busy doing batch cooking for freezer. Wonder if changing the beds might work? Double my chances if I use our naicest sheets as I'll be annoyed if they get wrecked when my waters break!

Just home from sweep no. 5. It's quite painful to walk around, but am sure it's nothing as per usual. DP due home later but it's due to start snowing again soon. Not sure what I will do if he gets stuck as this sweep HAS to work!

Offer him a blow job? The hormones in semen are meant to be more effective swallowed (am almost 39 weeks and have a sweep booked for Friday but won't be offering blowjobs as just the thought makes me feel queasy but you might feel differently Wink )

I had a sweep with my last dc, did the above (yuk) and jumped up and down alot, danced to Elvis and my water broke 48 hours later.

My midwife from my last pregnancy told me it must of been a man who said swallowing semen worked. She said it does nothing swallowed and you want it on your cervix. She told me lots of sex and lay down for about 20 minutes afterwards to keep the semen at your cervix. I think its meant to do the same as the gel they put on your cervix to start induction.

Don't know if it works but my waters broke 2 days after my due date last time. No contractions though so still had to be induced. On the up side I didn't have to wait until I was 2 weeks overdue though.

Surrounded i spit my tea out reading that!! I didnt realise that they were more effective swallowed - best not let DP read that as he thought he was getting very lucky being asked for sex last night after several weeks of 'headaches'!

Ive got my living room disco ready for tomorrow afternoon and have invited my friend and her 16mo DD to party with me and my 19mo DD Grin

Gaviscon makes me heave too, its just so thick and gloopy.

It probably was a man that came up with it but apparently the hormone is more easily adsorbed through the lining of the stomach and gets I to the blood stream or something. I just googled it but it made me feel queasy. I'd rather stay pregnant. and don't fancy going round offering blowjobs to random men as I don't have a dp Grin

I've decided to do nothing but sit on my backside this week and relax, then when I reach my due date I will do some light housework and my body will be so shocked at the sudden mini burst of energy that I will go into labour - well that's the theory anyway!
