Long haul travel at 27 weeks?

I'm after a bit of advice please. I'm currently 18 weeks pregnant with my first baby and want to book a beach holiday with my husband as it will the last holiday with just the two of us for a very long time! I'm a teacher so can only go in school holidays which means the middle of March when I'll be 26 weeks on the way out and 27 on the way back. We want to go somewhere hot, so need to go long haul. I was thinking of Jamaica, but it's a 12 hour flight and when I spoke to my midwife about it this morning she said she thought it would be ok but I'd need to ensure there was a decent hospital / healthcare nearby before I go and, having had a quick look, I'm not sure there is.
I don't want to do anything risky, but I really want to go on holiday! Has anyone got any advice / suggestions of where might be better to go? Am I being over- cautious or should I go somewhere else? Thanks

At 24 wks with dc1 I went to morocco & at 26 wks with current pregnancy I went to st lucia - only 7/8 hr flight, 5 hr time difference & I had a fab time!

I just answered this on another thread, if it's any use ...

At 26 weeks I went to South Africa which is a 11 hour flight and we then had 1.5hour connecting flight, it was absolutely fine , however there was no jet lag and decent medical care if anything had happened. I am also a teacher so went in the Easter holidays as well.

A friend of mine went to the Seychelles at around 26 weeks and it was fine.

Just make sure before you travel to get a letter from the doctor stating how many weeks you are and that you are fit to travel. Some airlines may ask for it - I wasn't buy had it just incase.

Enjoy the holiday just the two of you.... They are never the same again Wink

At 30 weeks I went to Mauritius, check your airline cut off for max numb of weeks pregnant to fly. I flew back in my last day I could fly with that airline. I also got my GP to certify I was healthy to fly and carried the letter with me. Had a fabulous holiday.

Thanks for the advice. Good to hear other mums' pregnancy travel stories! Think I'm just going to go for it...
