Food that relieves a heartburn

Hi,

The dreaded heartburn is back at 22 weeks :(

Which foods have helped relieve your heartburn? Any tips or suggestions? I hate Gaviscon and would prefer not to go down that route if possible.

Thanks!

Milk is good

PositiveAttitude · 19/01/2013 01:22

Yoghurt! I always took a couple of pots up to have during the night when it kept me awake!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 19/01/2013 02:10

Yoghurt or ice cream

Liquorice root from health food shops (the stick like stuff) Break off a half inch and chew until it has no taste, then discard the waste.

I second the milk. I have found that if I eat chocolate it makes it worse so I have to avoid that now (booooooo!)

Ricepudding saved me when I had the most terrible heartburn used to be up all night- midwife said to try it and it really worked

Almonds. Or a teaspoon of vinegar in a glass of water. Apparently bicarb soda can fix it too, haven't tried that one myself though.

lookingfoxy · 19/01/2013 09:34

Im trying actimel just now

rainand · 19/01/2013 09:49

Thanks! I will try milk and almonds and see how that goes. Anyone tried banana?

I had horrific heartburn from 16 weeks with DS. This was not resolved by my 6+ pints a day milk craving!

Rennies were the only thing that helped, the green pack (spearmint?) which came in convenient (weekly for me) boxes of 96. I still cannot bear Gaviscon.

ZenNudist · 19/01/2013 10:04

Peppermint tea is fantastic

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/01/2013 10:08

Milk or fruit Flavoured Rennies, I cannot bear Gaviscon or anything minty.

rainand · 22/01/2013 00:07

Thanks! Will try rennies too.
