Clingy Woofer!

My 8 1/2 year old staffy has been ultra clingy for the last 8/9 weeks and seems to be getting worse!

If I'm lying down on the bean bag, he has to be snuggled next to me, if I leave the room he'll follow me and last night he wouldn't get off the end of the bed (and he isn't allowed to sleep on the bed, he has his own bed and has always slept on it).

I am still waiting for first MW appointment and scan, but think that I'm around 11 weeks - did my dog know about all this before me and has anyone else experienced weird pet behaviour during early stages?!

My dog was the same. She also started stealing and chewing up my knickers and pj bottoms during pregnancy, and has never done this before or since. Odd. She is back to normal now, and great with dd.

My anti-social cat is way more affectionate and inclined to sit on my lap when I'm pregnant. Happened during last pregnancy, and is happening again now. I think some animals just know!

My cat has absolutely been far clingier since I got pregnant than I've ever known her to be. My male cat on the other hand couldn't give two hoots but there's been times the female cat has been lying and when my partner sits on next to be she gets visibly annoyed. Quite funny.

Yup, my little pooch has also developed a intense desire to sit on my knee whenever he can. :) Mind you, he's always been a bit of a lapdog.. just even more so now!

My staffy is the same :-) follows me everywhere & is very protectective doesn't even like DP coming to close hehe xxxx

LOL, DP and I were having a tea towel fight and woofer kept trying to steal the tea towel from him!

There was barking and lip curling and everything! (and that was just DP!!!)

my 7year old, male staffy loves my bump. he sniffs it all the time, and rests his head between my thigh and bump. when he jumps up he puts a paw either side and puts his chin on it. they're actually known as the "nanny" dog. but i have been told to be careful with my partner, as they tend to be VERY over protective of mother and baby when he/she is born. (i.e. more chance of partner being bitten then baby) which was a surprise to me, thought he'd be jealous of the baby getting attention, and take a dislike to her xxx

Our girl lab is constantly following me around from room to room and has to lie at my feet. The boy lab always has to have his head on my lap and the other day I found him snuggled on a blanket on the sofa where I'd been sitting (he stole my spot when I got back from the loo) and they have never ever been allowed on the furniture. The girl lab would always guard my nephews Moses basket whenever he was asleep too. They also bark and pace whenever I'm feeling Unwell, but only since I've been pregnant. They can definitely sense it!

Definitely! My greyhounds are usually too lazy to get off their beds during the day but start accompanying me to the door/upstairs/into the garden the moment I'm pregnant.
They're just a lot sloppier, cuddlier and ever so slightly protective in general.
Was one of the first things that made me suspect I was pregnant this time.

My cat Fatso wont even let me go to the bathroom alone since getting pregnant. He gets up for every single one of my late night trips to the bathroom too. My husband thinks it's weird but I'm growing accustomed to having him lick my toes as I pee.

My lab had a bit of a wobbly when I was first pg, reverted back to naughty pup behaviour like chewing up cardboard/tea towels when we were out and pooping on the kitchen floor - but that was only til I was about 10 weeks. Since then he's been very perceptive to my moods, always gives the bump a good sniff and generally been more interested in me generally (he's more hubby's dog than mine).

Another weird one is when I went to visit in-laws - they have the grumpiest cat, she usually disappears when people come over and swipes at children etc - This time she climbed up onto my lap, let me stroke her and began licking my hands and wrists and nuzzling my boobs as the rest of the family stared in amazement!!

Animals definitely know, they pick up on the hormone changes I think.

I would agree. Our 3.5 year old cocker spaniel has been following me everywhere since about week 4. He gets up on my lap when I get in and always sits on my lower stomach! Will have to stop him soon but for now it's nice to know he is aware and protective of me and bump!

My (female) cat started to be really affectionate towards me before I even knew I was pregnant. She also started bringing me daily 'presents '

Now I have had the baby she is sulking with me and sits on dp's lap all day instead.

I read somewhere it's because the hormones alter your scent. I took one of my dogs to the vet a couple of weeks ago because she's been sulky and depressed since before xmas (she's a pug so naturally prone to sulkinessl, but not for this long) He gave her some anti-anxiety pills to put in her food (!) which don't seem to be working much. So last week I googled "does my dog know I'm pregnant" lol and that's what came up. If she's sulking now, just wait til baby is here!

My dog was the same when I was pg with DS, followed me everywhere, had to sit on or near me.
When I brought DS home he was utterly disgusted in fact he sat facing to wall for 2 days!
Am 30 weeks now, and he's not bothered this time!

I think my pooch Holky knew I was pregnant before I did, she was clingy and my shadow for about a week before I found out and still is now at 16wks, she is forever following me about and coming to sit on my knee. My other pooch Jack hasn't really bothered other than being a bit whingy but I put that down to him getting on a but I'm sure he senses something too!!

my dogs acted a bit strange through mt whole pregnancy but when my waters broke they follwed me everywhere and were trying to lick me with really wierd expressions on their faces.. kind of wagging their tails and being really happy but being really subdued and submissive too...

My dog doesn't seem to have a clue but I think my male cat knows.

The cat is the grumpiest, non- affectionate cat ever. He will sleep in the bed with us but ALWAYS on DHs side until the last few weeks. Now he tucks himself in by my tummy purring like mad. It's sweet.

I have pugs too and can't say I've noticed the difference. That said, they were already the clingy-est little beasts anyway so always trying to climb onto your lap, into bed with you (not content with on top of bed) and I have gotten totally used to going to the loo and showering watched by two pairs of enormous eyes.

I'm 24 weeks now so not too long before they get the shock of their lives that will no doubt put their none existent noses out if joint!

Mine is drivin me nuts. I can't even go to the loo in peace, she's worse than a toddler. I nearly (accidentally) stabbed her the other night when I was chopping veg and she was right under my feet and I dropped the knife, it fell point down and missed her by mm! Of course they know you are pregnant, natural for them to be more protective.

Woofer currently sat on my feet on beanbag in front of fire - it's very lovely, but a little freaky!

Some funny stories up there, wish I could draw cartoons!
