possible pregnancy with an IUD....??

Hi all...i'm new to this forum but i'm really hoping someone can help me.
I have a hormone free IUD (have had it in for almost 1 year) and my last period started on 25/12/12.
For the past few days i've had a really weird sensation low down in my tummy - kind of like bubbles and occasional cramping. I've also got a really annoying lower backache and yesterday i started to feel a little sick :( I've had a thick creamy white/pale pink discharge and a sore left nipple for a couple of days also.
I usually only get period cramps and sore boobs the day before i'm due and the backache and discharge are new for me.

I can't find my IUD strings but i think this is because they were trimmed really short.
I've had sex with OH everyday since my last period but as i have an IUD i wasn't concerned!! I feel like i'm crazy for even worrying about these symptoms being pregnancy symptoms as i know an IUD is supposed to be very effective! I suppose i'm wondering how common IUD pregnancies are?? And do my symptoms sound like early signs of pregnancy or maybe a problem with my IUD??
Any advice or insight would be greatly appreiciated....

i don't know much about IUD's but those symptoms do sound pregnancy related.. i had cramping, increase of discharge, felt sick and my boobs got bigger and sore. i would go to the GP as soon as you can and explain all the symptoms. say you are wondering if it could be a pregnancy.. good luck and let us know :) xx

Please see your GP as you as you can. There is a slightly elevated risk of ectopic pregnancy with a non-hormonal IUD. Even if you're not pregnant it would be wise to rule out any problems associated with the IUD.

Hello, I'm new to this site and would appreciate a little advice. I'm concerned that I may be pregnant. I haven't done a test yet, I've just started researching early symptoms. I have a copper coil, which I know isn't 100% safe, but considering what I've discovered on the net I'm worried that it's not as effective as I thought. I've checked the symptoms you've listed and I'm suffering with sickness all day, headaches, mood swings. I had my last period around Christmas, it wasn't as heavy as usual but not very light either. I had cramps daily and a small bleed last week. My next period isn't due for another two weeks. I'm not sure if I have to wait to see if it arrives or if I can do a test straight away. I am absolutely terrified that I might be as I don't know how my boyfriend will react. Does it sound possible that I could be pregnant or am I over-reacting?

Thanks for the replies ladies! I feel really confused by the symptoms i have right now....and in the last couple of hours the sicky feeling has gotten much stronger!! Pregnancy wasn't something i was even considering for a long time but the more i think about it, it doesn't seem like the worst thing in the world - not sure how OH will react though LOL. I'm gonna wait and see if AF arrives as scheduled and test next week if not. If my symptoms get worse or become painful i will go to my GP to make sure everything is ok!
@kate...i completely understand how you're feeling! It's definately confusing to say the least but i think it's too early to test. I'd wait until nearer t o period time to take a test - but if you start to feel unwell maybe go to GP to be sure! Thanks again xx
