I'm really, really hoping someone can help/reassure me. I'm unsure when my LMP was but I am certain I have not had any bleeding of any sort past 7th Dec as thats when I jetted off on my hols. DH and I have not had hanky panky since 23rd Dec (we were staying at my parents over xmas) and I got my BFP on 11th Jan.

The problem is I was working out that my LMP was roughly around 1st Dec and that makes me around 6 weeks. Today due to some pains I had an early scan - they could see what they thought was the start of a very early pregnancy but said they thought it to be no more than about 4 weeks. I am so confused as I can't make the dates add up. Is it likely that the pregnancy isn't viable?

I wouldn't worry about lmp too much as it assumes a 28 day cycle... It seems from your post that your periods are irregular so lmp is basically meaningless.
If you last dtd on the 23rd you'll be around 5 weeks pregnant now (2 weeks plus conception)

I'd go for another scan in a week or so.

Early scans are very inaccurate in my expirience, speshly around 6wk mark. I had my scan this time bang on 6wks they could only see a a sac no yolk or anything. I went back 12 days after at 7+5 there was a baby with heartbest but he said 6+5 I know I'm not that far off my dates cause I only have 28 day cycles and tested posative day 29, so I really don't think I ovulated day 21. Waiting for my 12wk scan to check xx

Early scans are really hard to date accurately (hence 12 weeks for dating scan - far enough on to be reasonably accurate, early enough for all foetuses to have followed standard growth patterns).

I had several early scans. Scan 1:
my dates 6 weeks
There dates 5+4

Scan 2 - 2 weeks later
my dates 8 weeks
their dates - 6+4

Dating scan 4/5 weeks later - edd agreed with mine.

They are measuring something so small, that moves, through your skin, and a fraction of a mm wrong gets inaccurate dates. Are you going back in a few weeks?

Thank you ladies for all your advice. They took bloods today and I have to return in 48hrs for a repeat test. The nurse called me today to tell me that todays blood results match the dates on the scan - don't know if that's a good sign?

Just keeping my fingers crossed that everything will be okay.

Yes, thats a good sign! See what happens in 48hrs - your HCG should have doubled, or nearly doubled. Tho the range for HCG is quite wide, its good that the info agrees.
Fingers crossed for you.

How did things go today?
Had my fingers crossed for you, but only just got online!

cravingformilk · 18/01/2013 19:33

Hi nextphase,

How kind of you to remember me. Today went really well! HCG levels were at 3300 today which she told me was good news - I wasn't told what the levels were on Wednesday but I'm assuming they've doubled. I'm booked in for another scan on Thursday so keeping positive and hopefully there will be something more to see.

Still have no real idea about dates but she estimates between 4&5 weeks.

Fab news! Think they don't expect to see anything on a scan until HCG is over 5000, so hopefully on Thursday, you'll get a first glimpse of your little bubba!

Ooo, I really hope so!
