Braxton hicks? Is it still hard?

iamwhaticallpregnant · 16/01/2013 06:32

yes it is hard all the time - doesnt come and go. i noticed last night as i was sleeping it was harder than usual and that it felt oddly massive. like i couldnt lie normally on my side unless it was really resting on the matress.

Please call the labour ward. you should be checked out.

I am just leaving for work, but please, do ring them.

I had this from about 36 weeks til he was born at 41+6. V uncomfortable and pretty scary, but it was just braxton hicks. I'm pregnant with dc2 and it started at 26 weeks this time.
Bump would go hard for an hour or more, not coming and going.
That said, I do think you should get checked out because there are other things that could be going on and you'll only know if you get checked.
Phone now, don't wait and see.
Good luck.

i have a Midwife app at lunch time today so i will ask her then but i am happy that he has been moving about a lot since i woke up so i am not panicking too much. It is becoming apparent it may be wind related!!! IyKWIM!

You should definitely check but I get this a lot - most evenings really - it goes brick hard for quite a time. It feels like it wants to detach itself from my body!

Been to the midwife for my appointment and explained the feeling to her and she said it was Braxton Hicks - I assumed that BH came and went like contractions (first baby so no clue what these feel like) and i said the feeling of hardness and tightness was constant and she just nodded and said yes braxton hicks.
She listened to heartbeat and said everything was ok. Still feels hard - very odd.

Yeah I'm the same - if you look up Braxton Hicks it mostly says they come and go but mine also stays hard for a while and I was told it was perfectly normal. I find lying down and relaxing for a bit usually eases it for me.

ShowOfHands · 16/01/2013 15:18

I found that they were worse when dehydrated, could have a few hours of rock hard, balloon inflated to capacity type feeling if I hadn't drunk enough.

iamwhaticallpregnant · 16/01/2013 16:17

feel SO sick now too - and yes i have noticed i have been really really dehydrated recently.

Currently 36+5 and I've been getting the exact same thing for the past fe weeks, OP. It's a bit freaky, isn't it?!
