Blood test at 28 weeks - is it really necessary?!

I'd be interested to hear about anyone who has felt compelled to refuse blood tests (or anything else). I'm 28 weeks pregnant and I had the routine bloods taken in the first trimester - all came back perfectly fine. The midwife has checked my wee at every visit, all has been fine. Why oh why do I need a blood test now? I asked and she told me it was to check blood sugar (which she is checking with the wee test anyway) and iron. She has written it big bold letters on my paperwork that I have to have this test before my next meeting in four weeks. I thought all tests we have are voluntary, not compulsory? I'm getting so annoyed with the attitude. I wouldn't mind but this is the third midwife I have met so far, what the deal?! Grumble grumble grumble...

A somewhat mollified post OP. I think if you'd explained yourself a bit more like your recent post then you might have had nicer responses.

Whilst I appreciate that it's not straightforward logistically, and that you've been mucked about a bit by a series of MWs, and that you're petrified of needles, this blood test is important as it can highlight problems such as anaemia which an have severe knock on effects if not treated. So I would try as much as possible to have it and explain to hem your fear of needles to see if they give you a longer appt etc. I would imagine this blood test could be done by a nurse at your surgery, ie. doesn't have to be done by a MW which might be more relaxing and convenient.
