I'm having my 4th c-section at 38 weeks and have been told I need to have steroids at 37 weeks. I've no objection to this but have never heard of it before and dd3 was born at 38 weeks 2 years ago.

Is it a new thing or just new to my hospital?

Think it's a new thing- I had ny baby in August (ELCS for breech) at 38+2 and had steroids. Was told it was hospital policy before 39 weeks. Baby had no probs.

I am having a c section at 39 weeks and nothing been mentioned to me about having steroids nor with my last c section 3 years ago. You should ask your midwife about it as the consultant should have out reason in yr notes.

It's for 38 & less not 39 weeks.
I don't have a MW only a consultant who explained it was due to babies being born at 38 with breathing problems.
It's just something new to me as something had changed since 2010

It's a new thing. Rcog guidelines for planned sections prior to 39 weeks. Has been shown to cut the incidence of respiratory difficulties from something like 7% to 0.6%.

Had steroids for a 35 week CS, did not have them for a 38 week one.

Thanks, just interested rather than concerned!
