Sex during pregnancy (Possible TMI - you've been warned!!)

So the last few times DP and I have had sex he's said it feels very, um, tight and that there's hardly any room in there. Blush. As a result I tend to come away feeling a little uncomfortable - even if we're using lubricant. Its getting to the point that I'm not really looking forward to penetrative sex which is annoying since I'm not comfortable with him doing anything else because I feel very 'unclean' at the moment as a result of discharge...

Is this fairly typical? Or is my uterus maybe quite low and is causing problems? Haven't read anything about it in the zillions of books I have about pregnancy...

Possibly you are tensing up? I have never heard of the uterus causing the tightness but maybe unconciously you are nervous about hurting the baby? so therefore you clench your muscles which can then make penetrative sex painful. I could be wrong but in my first pregnancy I found sex disgusting and painful but spoke to my doctor who really helped and I finally relaxed and enjoyed it! x

I don't really think I am tensing up I'm afraid. Well, certainly not consciously...

I'm really aware that I can't do anything to hurt the baby and, in fact, most of the time we have sex it's me who's initiated it?

Might be best to speak to your gp or midwife? They might have a look and see if there is a physical problem xx

Personally I never had a problem with either pg, perhaps speak to your gp or mw.

How far along are you? If you're in the last trimester, maybe it's the position of the baby, like it's dropped down a bit?

Thanks everyone. I'm 25+5 but DP mentioned it about a month ago for the first time... I'd feel embarrassed going to the midwife just for that but will mention it next time I'm there.

It could be that there is more blood flowing to that area causing some swelling or even water retention I think someone else mentioned this on another thread about constipation but the same 'general' area. Do you feel uncomfortable during sex (without his comments)?
He may just have his own anxieties some men worry about hurting the baby bless them so he may be being paranoid himself. Your uterus should be quite high (I think - no expert) and I'm sure you would feel it if it were against the uterus.
If you are concerned check with the midwife my poor midwife has to deal with all sorts of questions from me but I have no shame and feel its better to ask than worry :)

Thanks Emsyboo. No I'm definitely smarting a little down there today so don't think it's subconscious because of his comments... Blush You may well be right about the extra blood flow though - I'm constantly feeling a pulse on the front and quite down low so it could be that there's just a lot more blood flow round there...

Could you possibly have a yeast infection. I've had a similar feeling to what you are experiencing before when I haven't been pregnant and discovered I had thrush (however it wasn't itchy). If I were you I'd see my GP rather than midwife as they're more likely to be able to rule anything like that out. Good luck!

i'm 23 weeks, and myself and partner have began to notice a certain "tightness" down there. it's not really uncomfortably tight, but he pays more attention to forplay (which is always nice) and that seems to help. i wouldn't worry about discharge and feeling embarressed, try having a bath, and then doing stuff, if you feel more comfortable. i'm sure your partner feels bad that he can't satisfy you in the same way, maybe he won't want to get his tongue down there, maybe get some fun toys. my partner used to hate anything like that, but you just slowly introduce stuff, and you might be surprised what you like. leaves the option of just teasing each other some nights. you don't ALWAYS have to have penetrative sex, it's nice to just fool around sometimes, keeps things exciting xxx

Are you constipated at all? When I'm constipated I find it can impact on how much 'room' there is down there.

Hi Weeblueberry,

I think, like Emsyboo mentioned, that it may be down to the fact that everything during pregnancy seems to just get more swollen.

You have a greatly increased blood flow and so may find that its more tight down there because of that. I have a slightly similar thing and know what you mean about it feeling uncomfortable.
Unfortunately my libido has also gone completely out the window so no chance of any jiggyness anyway for us at the mo!

I know how you feel about discharge lol I can't have sex as have complete placenta previa so all we can do is foreplay but I really feel uncomfortable with the amount of discharge will try the bath tip Grin

I seem to remember sex being uncomfortable in the 2nd trimester when I was last PG, even with lube. However, by the 3rd trimester it was all good again! Well, except for the gigantic bump that is...
