Reccomendations for a sling?

So DD started her new school last week, and after seeing the VERY narrow walkway I will need to push the pram down and the havoc it causes when two prams come in oppisite directions I'm thinking of getting a sling/ baby carrier but have no idea where to start! Could you please reccomend me ones you have used and liked? X x

I used a boba wrap and a connecta but your best bet is going to a sling library and trying some out - if you google sling library you'll find your local one and there will be someone to help you.

def try a library. some do postal hire if you don't have a local one. the north east sling library does postal. wraps can be daunting but are fab once you get the hang of them or if that seems too hard a full buckle soft structured carrier is easy to get to grips with.

I loved the moby wrap til about 3-4 months, then moved on to the beco sling which was great.
Spent ages researching and came down to a choice between beco and an ergo. Ergo also get great reviews but I was happy with my choice. Used it with my 98th centile DS til he was well over 18 months.

Also, this website, despite looking a bit odd is full of fab info about how to choose a sling. Also deliver quickly.

I love my connecta. I have been using it since ds was tiny and still carry him with ease at almost 7 months.

For a newborn? For something that will last to toddlerhood I really recommend a Manduca. It's really, really easy to use and very comfortable.

I love stretchy wraps for newborns (Moby or Close if the thought of tying stresses you out) but for longevity and ease of use you can't beat a soft structured buckle carrier imho.

Connecta, Ergo, Beco, Manduca are all similar carriers - just down to personal preference. I've had all but an Ergo and for us (me and DH) the Manduca is the hands down winner for comfort, versatility and ease of use. Try them though!

Can also recommend the north east sling library! If you email the lady who runs it she's very helpful!

Been doing a lot of research on this recently as I really want to use a sling w/ my first from the get-go. Sling libraries sound great, and there's one not too far from me, but presumably you need the baby before you can start trying them out?!?

So, my plan is to get one from Joe and Joy (saw recommendation on here) - they do a basic stretchy wrap for about £15 which will at least get me started (and apparently stretchy wraps are good for newborns). Then I can try out others once baby comes (I have my eye on either the Ergo or Manduca as a more long-term sling).

Another thing I have learnt is to avoid the Baby Bjorn (and many of the high street available ones) as they put too much stress on baby's hip joints. Key is to have baby supported behind knee, not hanging from its crotch/ hips...

For a really comfy and cheap sling I recommend buying 6 metres of T-shirt material and just download instructions for the wrap slings from the internet, to learn how to wrap it. I did this and found it really comfy from carrying a newborn until about 14months, when my new pregnant bump started to get in the way. I have a weak back as well, but this type spreads all the weight out and doesn't strain your back or shoulders.
