8 Week Midwife Appointment

Its been 5 years since I was last pg and then I had to wait until 12 weeks for my 1st appointment. This time I have an 8 week appointment with my midwife at the doctors. Can they hear the heartbeat that early? or do they just do blood pressure etc?
Thank you.

I think they'll just do your bp etc. They don't like listening to the hb before 16 weeks usually as sometimes they can't get it and it panics the mum. Also I don't think it's possible for the hb to be heard before 9 weeks anyway. You should get a scan at around 12 weeks though.

They just book you in, lots of questions, blood pressure, urine but no fetal heart. Can't be heard until around 14 weeks. Sorry the first appointment isn't very exciting!

I think it's called a booking appointment. They do blood and wee test and then fill out all the paper work. The routine seems to change so often. I had 4 pgs fairly close together and the scans and appointments seemed to change everytime.

I had my first midwife appointment at 8 weeks and she didn't try to find the heartbeat, just blood pressure and that was about it!

When I went back at 12 weeks for my "booking in appointment" which usually takes about an hour, she found the heartbeat then which was great!

They also send you for a dating scan now (Iam sure most area's do this) so instead of waiting for the 20week scan you get sent up for the pregnancy to be measured which is another thing to look forward too!
