Uncontrollable weight gain

I just wondered whether anyone else experiences inexplicably large and uncontrollable weight gain in pregnancy and whether anyone has found a way to stop it.

With DC1 I put on 70lbs! I started as a size 14 so not small. That time I did see pregnancy as a license to eat what I wanted so I thought I understood why it happened. Also I had pre-eclampsia at the end so retained a lot of water. I lost 42 lbs within 3 days of giving birth.

With DC2 I was very careful not to eat too much. I started as a size 12 so I was smaller anyway. Despite daily exercise and not increasing my calorie intake I still put on 45lbs. It seemed very unfair and it took 9 months to lose it all.

This time I am only 22 weeks and have put on 20 lbs already. I lost a lot of weight before this pregnancy so I was a size 8 at start but I lost that weight through low carbing and my morning sickness made me eat carbs again so I think the carbs alone explain some of the gain. Nevertheless I am gutted at the way the weight is piling on. I have not eaten one cake or anything, I still avoid carbs in the evening and yet on the weight piles.

I just wondered whether others have had similar problems and whether anyone has managed to slow the weight gain to a more average rate?

I'm sorry you're suffering and it sounds as though you're doing everything right - i.e., avoiding gestational diabetes by avoiding carbs!

If it's any consolation a group of extremely athletic friends of mine all put on 70lbs with each and every pregnancy - but they've all lost it. I guess everyone is just different.

I once read that Whitney Houston went from 7 to 14 stone when she was pregnant with Bobbie-Kristina.

(Please don't ever ask me how I manage to retain such brilliantly informative snippets of info like that.)

I seem to be similar, it sucks doesn't it! I put on 4 stone with dc1 and am 15 weeks with dc2 and seem to be going the same way. It's weird because my diet doesn't change, am possibly a bit less active but not enough to explain it all.... Bah!

im the same it doesnt matter what I do I always put 3-4 stone on with every pregnancy ! the 1st 2stone seems to drop off after giveing birth but the rest is really hard work for me

I am the same last pregnancy put on 4.5 stone from pre pregnancy weight even after losing 10lbs first trimester from ms
This pregnancy is looking similar really sucks but don't think you are by any means alone although you only seem to notice the ladies who are in size 8 jeans a week after giving birth!
Took me a long time to lose the weight too but sounds like you are doing everything right.
Big hugs x x

Tamster I'm the same - first two stone seems to fall off, the rest hangs about like a bad smell. V annoying!
