Anyone else having bad headaches in early pregnancy?

I'm only just pg but have three pretty bad headaches in the past 4 or 5 days. I've read that these can clear up after the first trimester (I rarely get headaches usually).
Anyone else suffering?

no but I used to get them with dd and they were linked to blood presssure. Not saying that's what yours are , might be worth seeing the GP or midwife though.

I had them in my first pregnancy. They did stop after the first trimester. I used paracetamol as they said it was was fine but not sure its its still on the safe list as these things change all the time.

i had loads really early on - that lasted a day at a time. Really grim. But there are so many powerful hormones racing round your body at the moment it's no surprise really. prob worth mentioning to a midwife/doc though just to be sure.

yes but i just put it down to being sooo tired!

I had migranes (sp) with DS... I found I had to keep eating and not let myself get hungry... are you getting enough fluids?

compo · 19/04/2006 18:21

I had this too. I don't think I was drinking enough water. Paracetemol is the only thing you can take although I'm not sure about that 4Head stuff you rub onto your head

SecondhandRose · 19/04/2006 18:32

Are you dehydrated?

cupcakes · 19/04/2006 18:50

possibly am a bit dehydrated although I have been trying to drink more water today.
Missed breakfast this morning which probably didn't help. By the time I did stop to eat it had really kicked in and didn't go till about 4ish.

Cupcakes, I had bad headaches almost on-stop for a period of about three weeks during the 1st trimester - horrid but they just went one day as suddenly as they came. Don't worry, do drink plenty of fluids and get plenty of sleep, and the odd paracetamol won't hurt (although I didn't find they did much good). Hope your head is back to normal soon!

I had horrible headaches early in my last pregnancy. Fortunately, it seemed like it was something associated with early pregnancy and disappeared at 12-14 weeks.

I occasionally took paracetamol, but got some relief from burning lavendar candles.

jmum6 · 20/04/2006 13:42

Yes defienitly, they were worse at around 12 weeks, and then disappeared. In fact I don't think I had one at all after 13 weeks.

I've been sensible today and have been eating regularly and drinking lots of water. I have a very slight headache which feels like it could get worse if I don't watch it. But so far nothing like yesterday.
I'm hoping it is a pg symptom as I haven't got any others really. I don't feel sick so maybe I'm getting this instead. I couldn't cope with the headaches + nausea.

IIRC from my experience, headaches in the first trimester are usually hormone-related (especially if you get headaches during your period and these headaches are similar), but frequent headaches any later than the first trimester should be checked out because they can be BP-related.

I didn't have headaches with my first (a boy), but did with my second (a girl), and they stopped by the end of the first trimester.

dh reminded me that I got headaches when pg with ds. They are like my normal headaches (which I get very infrequently) - they are across the front of my forehead and then when it really kicks in I get a major throbbing vein on one side of my temple (it varies which side).
