Pains at 38wks - labour!?

I'm 38wks tomorrow, have SPD which is mainly affecting my right hip and thigh, it's really bad today but just sat down with a hot water pack thing you microwave to try and ease the pain but I've started having pains in my lower bump. Quite sharp for just a few seconds then it stops.

I know I sound clueless but this is my second DC but with my first labour my waters went, then nothing until strong contractions later in the day which I knew was definitely labour.

I'm hoping this is just wind or something as I've not shaved my legs since god knows when and I can no longer see my bush but I know it's definitely a rather large messy bush! tmi sorry

Does this sound like labour? And if it is, I'm due to give birth in the local midwife run birthing centre, would I still go there beings as I'm not 40wks yet? Don't want to go down there and be turned away if I'm classed as 'early'

Was planning on asking my midwife all this when I see her tomorrow

Hi there. Call your MW unit. You'll be allowed in (or in my area you are) any time after 37 weeks.

I had period-like pains that slowly increased in pain/frequency over a couple of hours (I was also clueless - was only 36 weeks, no other DC, thought I had a UTI.)

Definitely pack your bag. Good luck!

Now I really want to know what's happening...

Nothing as yet sorry to disappoint! The pains stopped then came back a while later but for the time being seem to have stopped again! I just panicked a bit, I think I need to get my head around the fact this labour will probably be completely different to the first!

Maybe these are just the sort of 'getting ready' twinges...good luck when it does all kick off properly!

Was definitely a false alarm, think it may have been wind Blush had a check up with the midwife this morning and everything is fine, baby has started to engage so guess not much longer!
