Oblique baby - what could it mean for childbirth?

I know its early days but baby has gone from transverse to oblique (head down towards my hips) at 34 weeks. The mw wasnt worried and just told me to come back in 2 weeks and if bababy is still lying that way they will refer for a scan and to try to turn the baby. She said sometimes babies just lie like that especially in subsquent pregnancies (this is dc2) What I couldnt get a clear answer on was what it could mean for delivery if baby doesnt move? extra monitering? c section? induction? anyone know or has experience? Thanks!

I had oblique lie for baby no3....I was booked for an ELCS anyway due to previous 'trauma' down below, but a week before I was due to have ELCS, I ended up in hospital because baby was spinning between oblique & transverse & I was at risk of cord coming out first (cord prolapse I think its called) if I went into labour with a transverse lie.

Once baby had moved back to oblique, they were happy to let me go home, so they seem happy to let you labour naturally with oblique lie, but not with transverse.

2nd babies do move around alot, so i'm sure he/she will get in right position when time arrives!

Thanks for your reply icravecheese I wonder if that's why they would scan? To check its defiantly oblique and not transverse?

I know it's early days, fingers crossed he/she settles in the right position ok.

The plus point at the moment is that I don't need to get up at night to wee as there is no pressure on my bladder!

I don't know much about how baby lying oblique will affect birth but there's some information on Spinning Babies about things you can do to encourage your baby into a better position.

My dd (dc2) was oblique lie but popped into place in time for labour :) x

my dd2 was transverse at 33 weeks, then mainly breech oblique from 34 weeks (she flipped about a lot). I had a presentation scan at 36 weeks. she was turned at 37 weeks and was cephalic oblique till my waters broke during Labour. I had seen a mw for a sweep 36 hours before waters breaking and she was still oblique then. my mw just saw me each week from 33 weeks and told me to call the hospital as soon as my waters broke. that's what I did, I was told to.go straight in. everything was fine and she' d just engaged safely without trapping the cord, and was born safely and naturally 7 hours after my waters broke.
