Trying to get my head round ...

I'm trying to get my head round the length of the pregnancy. It is confusing me!

A woman is normally pregnant for 9 months. So that would mean 9 x 4 weeks = 36 weeks. Why are we then given our due date for 40 weeks?

^ sorry folks, after some googling I've found the diagram on this page explains it well: www.baby2see.com/development/week36.html

Welcome to the great secret, once you are preggers you learn that pregnancy does last 10 months!! (feels like 10years at times!) :)

And if you go 2 weeks overdue it's 10 and a half months!!

PipIsOutNow · 08/01/2013 19:25

Plus, one month is slightly more than 4 weeks. 4 weeks is 28 days but a month is usually 30-31 days so there's some room for discrepancy there too'

Only 1 month is 4 weeks long, those extra days add up. It is 9 calendar months but 40 weeks.

Another way to think of it is 26wks=6 months. As 52wks is 12 months so half that is 26wks. 4 weeks is not a full month, there's only febuary lasting 4weeks of course xx

Because you're counted as pregnant for 2 weeks before conception, which is a very stupid system.
Almost as stupid as thinking that a month is only 4 weeks. Hmm
