Expecting dc3 in about 5 weeks. First labour was a nightmare, 2.5 days of horrific contractions, ventouse, episiotomy, second baby, 14 hours from first Proper contraction to birth, slight graze but no stitches. Just wondering if I can expect this one to be any quicker or about the same as the second, or did anyone have an easy second time and nightmare third time (or what I'd rather hear, an easy second time and an even easier third labour!)

My third labour was brilliant .. First and second were awful, so I was really nervous, but I honestly think my body was ' oh yeah, done this before let's go !'
Nice and quick ( for me !) no stitches - all in all very doable

Good luck !

I hope mine is, I expected my 2nd to be a breeze it was awful, so nervous this time. My first labour was really fast 4.5hrs with 5 mins pushing, but ended up in hdu after, so labourwise I thought 2nd was going to fly out lol, but he didn't, 5 days long labour, trying to push for over 2hrs but was just stuck, had to have assisted, and then had to stay in hospital on I.v antibiotics for an infection in my blood. So really nervous whats going to happen this time xx

My first two were not good at all but my third labour and birth was easy peasy. No painrelief at all as I honestly didn't feel I needed it, even though I was induced and the birth was (as my nan used to say) like shelling peas.

Reaa · 08/01/2013 10:45

My first was 2hr 40mins, 2nd 1hr 52mins and 3rd was 5hrs 48mins and I laughed my way through that, gas and air is powerful stuff Grin

3rd labour by far the easiest. Just gas and air. Smallest baby at 8lbs. No pushing. I laughed when she came out and shouted "Was that it?" I was so relieved.

Gave me a false sense of confidence when pregnant with dc4. I chose a home birth and ended up delivering an 11lb baby with no pain relief. It was the hardest work of my life pushing that head out!

Pg with dc5 and feeling nervous already!

This is encouraging to read, Im not pregnant at the moment but dh and I are discussing having a third. Im pretty worried as when I had my son I had an awful time and it took so much time to get over it as much as I think I ever will, I was very nervous when I had our 2nd a couple of years later but that was a much better experience mentally. My youngest is now almost 5 and the thought of a) going through a traumatic birth, and b) doing it all again after the 5 years its been, are the main things that are holding me back. I do think Id like a bigger family though.

Quick. 30 mins start to finish. My first two labours had been quick though.

Twattybollocks · 08/01/2013 16:09

Keep the good stories coming ladies, for those that had quick labours, How much quicker were they than the second? After a 48 hour labour and a 14 hour labour I'm not expecting a lightening fast entrance for this baby, I'm thinking around 8-12 hours start to finish

This is very encouraging (DC3 arriving in 9 weeks or thereabouts) - though am gloomily anticipating another back-to-back labour. DC1 was four days of stop-start then 12 hours of proper labour, DC2 about 11 hours. Gas 'n' air both times. Am hoping for another reduction in overall time!

tamster83 · 08/01/2013 16:25

my 3rd was by far the best birth ! 4hr labour and 20min pushing just gas and air my 1st 2 were horrific long labours which lead to me spending days in hospital afterward currently 31wks with my 4th and hopeing and praying for a repeat of the 3rd ★

Third labour was great. First time took 2 + hours in the pushing phase ('tough' doesn't really cover that), second time had epidural and ventouse (which was fine by the way, a lot better than the first time). The third labour, I was having plenty of contractions on the way to the hospital and was 8cm dilated on first examination on arrival! Then baby girl out in 2 pushes about 1 hour later - she weighed in heaviest at over 9 lbs, but no tears or problems after down below. Brilliant experience. Someone had recommended eating lots of dates beforehand for an easy labour, which I did a lot of, but it may have been so easy because it was the third. Best of luck to you - I'm sure you'll be fine too

Really good. A nice respectable three hours, and all very text book.

pictish · 08/01/2013 16:33

Oh and to compare - my first labour was 27 hours, and my second was an hour and a half and I only just made it to hospital in time.
So the third was a breeze compared.
