listening to how fast the heartbeat is on a doppler? At my midwife appointment last week she was certain of the sex (although I didnt want to know)....I thought this was just an old wives tale if the heartbeats 150 bpm its more likley to be a girl than a boy?
Can anybody tell me if its likely to be true? Not that I'm curious or anything Wink

I think there is an element of truth in it, however I have heard many many people - here and elsewhere - complaining that it was wrong!

HTH!

MrsStrutsHerStuff · 18/04/2006 14:38

i heard this too and i have read about it too, ds had a higher rate than dd

no

nope not true in our case - our dd's heartrate (and I was on a trace for about 3 days before having her so fairly sure !!) was a boy's heartrate.

true in my case.

and ds sounded like a train - dd like a horse.

With dd the GP said to me 'oh you've got a little horse in there' so I knew!

Bear in mind that if the midwife has just felt your tummy this can send the baby's heartrate higher. Think you only get a true picture if you are on the monitor for a good while, to get an average heartrate.

PinkTulips · 18/04/2006 14:56

my dd's heartbeat was always 150 at every checkup so it was true for her anyway.

BigHotMama · 18/04/2006 14:58

Thanks for replies, I'm not sure if I believe it tbh? Surely some boys are gonna have a higher rate than girls and vice-versa? (Especially if he's as hyper as my DH!) Although would be great to prove everybody wrong as they all seem to think (& know) its a boy! I'll let you know in August!
