Can you drink it when pregnant? I have been really thirsty (7 weeks preg) and love drinking elderflower cordial. But after searching on the internet after being told by a friend not to drink it, now worrying I have harmed the bean. But searches have said it is fine and some say not...do you know? Have a made a huge mistake drinking it? Worried..

It's fine.

I remember trying it for the first time when I got a free sample in a bag of stuff from the midwife, at my booking in appointment!

Out of interest why would it not be ok?

Why wouldn't it be?

I love elderflower flavoured stuff. Have never heard it's unsafe in PG.

I was told something to do with herbs...and things to avoid in pregnancy..

In terms of herbal medicine, pregnant women should not have elderflowers. However, if this is a commercially made cordial, available at supermarkets etc I doubt very much that the strength of elderflower in the drink is anything like the amount used in herbal medicines. Otherwise, I would imagine there to be a warning on the bottles or it to be listed on those 'banned foods' lists available from GPs etc. Generally speaking, there are a few herbs that are not good in pregnancy that herbalists say are perfectly safe in your usual cooking. However, if the cordial is specifically connected with a herbal medicine company or it has words like 'remedy' or 'treatment' etc on the label then I'd avoid it. And if it's a normal drink, if it makes you feel more comfortable, just avoid from now on but I doubt there's anything yo worry about.

Hi, I know this is a very old thread, but I have had the same panic! I am 10 weeks pregnant and have been drinking loads of elderflower cordial, but accidentally came across something saying you shouldn't have elderflower when pregnant? Not I'm worried. Did you find out any more on this? Thanks!
