Just interested in your experiences. 12 week scan was perfect. We aren't having any screening apart from anomaly scan.

I had a gender scan at 17 weeks with Baby Bond. They were very good.

Littlemissexpecting · 04/01/2013 16:55

We were going to but decided to have a scan around 30 weeks instead as that's a longer gap.

Pontouf · 04/01/2013 17:26

I wouldn't. But then I'm not finding out the sex at all. Don't really understand why you'd spend all that money just to find out the sex a few weeks early. Also the earlier the scan the less reliable the sexing result will be.

But if it's what you want and you can afford it/justify the expense then go for it! I can totally see the appeal of having an extra scan to see the baby again, but as LittleMiss says, having one at 30 weeks might be better so that you don't go 20 weeks without seeing your lo?

kittykatsforever · 04/01/2013 17:35

I had one and just loved the port unity to see bubs again ( after 2 mc I've had alot more anxiety) but we wanted to know the sex aswell before we will tell everyone else at 20wks as they know we will find out so for now it's our secret, the sonographer also told me it was more accurate at 16wks as sometimes by 20wjs it's harder to tell as they are chubbier! ( she worked at the local hospital aswel)

kittykatsforever · 04/01/2013 17:36

Our was £50 so I didn't think extortionate

gertrudestein · 04/01/2013 17:39

I also want to get an early scan, but to check for neural tube defects because I drank a lot of green tea in early pregnancy. Does anyone know when is the earliest you can tell whether or not neural tube defects are present?

I have a big work trip for 6 days directly before my 20 week scan, and although I would normally wait I know I'm going to be away from home with noone to talk to, distracted and worrying.

Can anyone recommend a clinic in london?

thekingfisher · 04/01/2013 17:40

We did ....

It was wrong

Cue a lot of returned bedding etc

kittykatsforever · 04/01/2013 18:13

Oh no king fisher!! Have you had bubs yet? Do you know which was wrong as I have heard stories where people have been told different at 20wks and gone back to private place and it was hospitals at 20wk that got it wrong?
Think it's not as uncommon as people think to get it wrong though. I know 3 people it's happened to!

goodygumdrops · 04/01/2013 18:16

Gertrudestein - what is the relevance of the green tea? Are you meant to avoid it in early pregnancy? I have not heard that before.

Littlemissexpecting · 04/01/2013 18:32

I read that it affects folic acid absorption or something so I avoided it in first 12 weeks. Prob very rare to cause any probs though

gertrudestein · 04/01/2013 18:36

Yes, that's it LittleMiss. Not something to worry about unless you drink 'excessive' amounts, but the problem is I was drinking bucket loads of the stuff before I found out it was bad for you, and I wasn't taking folic acid for the first few weeks either.

If you've been having a few cups a day I'm sure there's absolutely nothing to worry about.

They were said she was a girl and it was confirmed at 23 weeks as she was curled up in a ball at 20 week scan lol couldnt see anything so had to come back to do heart checks, kidneys ect. she actually looked as if she was on karioke fist pumping on the 17 week 3d one lol very skinny tho, we have having a 29 week one when she is a has a bit more body fat x

goodygumdrops · 04/01/2013 19:45

OOh thats interesting thank you.

shelly81 · 04/01/2013 21:44

I had one at 17 weeks & it was amazing I took my 2 older ds's with us and it was very special as they were there when we found out we are having our 1st dd they showed us all the bits & pieces lol was a lovely experience WELL worth the money xxx

Twattybollocks · 04/01/2013 21:45

I had one at 16.5w this time, said girl. 2 subsequent scans say the same, 6 weeks or so and I'll find out for sure.

PogoBob · 04/01/2013 22:00

We had a private sexing scan at 16/17 weeks as wasn't clear whether we would be able to find out st the 20 weeks scan.

Think we went with baby bond, they said boy and arrived on Monday!

Was worth it to us as we wanted to know to help prepare DD for being a big sister.

smiler389 · 04/01/2013 22:18

Thank you everybody! Xxx

I had a private scan at 17 weeks - sonographer was confident it was a girl. Showed us the three lines and sent us home with lots of photos of her bits lol. Then went for the 20 week scan and the NHS sonographer was also very sure it was a girl - again saying it wasn't a lack of boys bits but that the three lines were very prominent.

The private sonographer said she had a 100% success rate after 17 weeks and would only say if she was confident enough to go out and buy all pink/blue items herself. Smile
