Any North Lancashire/South Cumbria Mums-to Be Out There?

Have tried the Lancashire local board, but one I'd blown off the inches of dust looked into it properly there was a big aft nothing going on there. Just wondered if there were any mums-to-be in the North Lancs/South Cumbria who'd like to chat, share experiences, and maybe meet up?

hiya. im actually west cumbria but closeish im 32 n pregnant with our first after trying for nearly 5 years so as u can imagine we are over the moon!! had an early scan last friday after I had a little bit of spotting but all has settled now and it wad amazing to see the little heartbeat. im 10 weeks tomorrow and got my booking in appt next Friday with the midwife then hopefully not long for my scan. its a killer not being able to tell anyone. only told my mum and hubbys parents so far. how are you doing? do u have any symptoms? I have a bit of nausea in the morning and at night but thats about it. im tired a lot bug think cold miserable days dont help do they?? take care. x

There's not a lot of MNers in the area( as you may have guessed!). I saw a few around Lancaster planning a meet up last year and there's a few more Cumbrians joined recently but not compared to other areas!

You can say that again.... there's absolutely nothing going on on the local board at all....

I was thinking of going to the NCT classes in Lancaster...but as they are about £200.00, I've had to think again.

I'm 45 (eep) and pg with DC2. I'm 11 weeks, and have my scan tomorrow....

Im in South Cumbria :) first baby, planned, n i'm 19+3. Thinking of joining "aqua-natal" soon, not sure though.

Hi, im near Blackpool so a bit far out.
Im 42 and 36 weeks preganant with dc 2.
Havent found anyone near here tbh.

I'm south cumbria, pregnant with dc2 13 weeks, 32. Aqua natal is brill, I'm starting in a few weeks once I feel more pregnant! I wanted to join nct first time round but nearest class is miles away so pointless really. Lots of good baby groups for making friends etc tho :)

BadMissM I did NCT with DS in Lancaster, they do reduced rates if you cant afford the full price (which is petty hefty!) but I would recommend them, I did my classes in the chapel at the University, is that where you're looking at?

hugahuddy Where are you deciding between? I had DS at the RLI (no choice, that was a high risk pregnancy) and am planning a home birth this time, anything I could help answer?

Hi EddieIzzardIs I'm in sunny Morecambe. I was looking at the ones at the Uni, but they have nothing up about reduced rates at all... might give them a ring... I would really like to do them because all the RLI ones are in the afternoon and DH can't come....

hugahuddy I'm having to go with the RLI as am too high-risk to go anywhere else....

neiffer and hopeful are you far away from Lancaster?

Bad the advertised RLI ones are in the afternoons but when you put in the form that the midwife gives you they actually do them evenings and weekends as well. I've just got my letter for a Sunday class at the end of the month.
I'm hoping for a home birth just because I don't like hospitals but I've heard Helme Chase in Kendal is very good.

scroobius aaaaaah! The midwife's given me absolutely nothing so far.... Not particularly impressed. Helme Chase is supposed to be good as long as nothing goes wrong, but have had a couple of friends that have had to be ferried back and forth from Helme Chase-RLI because it did....

I'm near barrow in Furness, nearest hospital furness general. On the info I received at booking in it said not to expect to get into the rli if you were in its catchment due to too many babies! Did you guys get that?

Bad I wouldn't worry too much depending on how far along you are. I got given a pack with everything in at my after 12 week scan appt but don't think you need to hand in your classes form until after 20 weeks. I'm 31 weeks now and only just been told which class I'm booked for.
That's why I decided on home rather than Helme Chase; I'm only 10 mins away from the RLI do probably in a better position staying here.
Neiffer I didn't hear that but I do live quite close to the hospital and I pretty much said straight away that I wanted to stay at home.

Neiffer Gosh, hadn't heard that..... hope I do at least get into the RLI... haven't had it yet. Mind you, not having booking-in appt until 17 January...which will be about 14 weeks for me.

scroobius had my 12 weeks scan today... and got nothing!
I'd guess you were better at home than Helme Chase if you're that close!

BadMissM The letter we got for nhs classes invited us to ones held Wednesday evenings but due to our jobs (youth work) we wouldnt have been able to make it anyway (and they ran from mid-december to the end of jan and DS was due mid-jan so would have had him before he end of the course anyway!)

Nct ones were 2 full days on a Saturday in about November so plenty enough time before and one optional morning on breastfeeding the week after

On this link it gives the costs and says "There are reduced price options with up to 90% off the full price for those on low income or certain benefits. Please ask your course organiser for more details. You can also pay for your course in instalments" so there may be some leeway?

BadMissM I'm about 25 mins drive from Lancaster, will be having my baby at RLI rather than the smaller unit at my local hospital

Helme Chase is closest to me but I would rather be at RLI incase anything goes wrong as if it does you have to go to RLI anyway!

BadMissM They should be alright, I always thought they were pretty reasonable about understanding not everyone has over £200 to spend on classes at an already pretty expensive time! Fx they say its ok...

Was just going to ask everyones due dates?

Mines anywhere between 31st of May and 7th of June (GP/Consultant/my dates/all the different scans have all said slightly different things!)

EddieIzzard My due date equally variable...told 22nd July, 24 July, and 29th July yesterday at scan.

Urgh, at scan yesterday also told they don't do combined nuchal scan in our PCT. Apparently, if I want it I have to go to Manchester or Leeds, not referred by them, but pay £180 for it. That's reassuring at 45. Then got shouted at when I said their crappy blood test late on was late, and that if I didn't really want an amnio I was stupid.... even though I had told them I had a stillbirth due to a botched amnio....

Hi ladies, im in barrow, just had my third baby.

Thats weird about the nuchal, BadMissM, i had one done here for my last pregnancy. Just read an interesting post on the antenatal tests board about a chromosome blood test thats now available, might be of interest to you

Ive not had nuchal in any pregnancy. Though I didn't have a 12 week scan last time either as they decided 9 weeks ish was ok as a measurement.

Hi, I'm in south Cumbria! Expecting dc2 in May.
Had dd in helme chase, although she did have problems, so were transferred to RLI, but the midwives at helme chase were fantastic, ambulance was there within minutes and only took twenty minutes to get her to Lancaster.
We didn't bother with NCT classes last time, or rather I couldn't be bothered driving to Lancaster after work, so did the parent craft classes in helme chase.

Am just outside of black pool, due 11/3/13, going to blackpool vic hospital.Am amazed at the number of local-ish ladies on here, thought it was just me!
