Rhesus negative - Anti-D Antibodies detected

Please excuse the possibly inaccurate medical terminology - still trying to get my head around this. I got a call from my midwife saying that the results from my latest blood tests done at 29 weeks have come back and indicate that anti-D antibodies are present in my blood. This is DC2. DD1 was rhesus negative and the blood test at 12 weeks of this pregnancy was negative for antibodies, therefore sensitisation must have occured between 12 weeks and now (although I am not aware of any sensitisation event and I have not had any bleeding or accident). At 29 weeks I also had the anti-D injection (the hospital were not aware of the sensitisation at the time). I am due in tomorrow for further blood tests to confirm the findings but I am in the meantime concerned and I would appreciate any advice on the following:

  • Is the current pregnancy likely to be affected?
  • Will having received the anti-D injection cloud blood results from now on? Can it help although sensitisation occured prior to the injection?
Thanks a lot.

I've no idea but I'm bumping for you as I'm RHNeg and due to bleeding had an anti-D at the weekend and as had more yesterday, might have to have another jab. They took blood from me before the jab at the weekend so I'm guessing they'd phone if they detected anything (as I actually started bleeding 10 days prior to having the jab - stupid GPs didn't send me for a jab!).

I really hope you get some answers on here but please try not to worry too much until you get a chance to speak to them properly tomorrow (easier said than done I know!).

Good luck and let us know how you get on x

looneytune, many thanks for your encouraging words. Much appreciated. I hope it all goes really well with you.

myjobismum, no, I only had the one injection and that was after the blood test.

I gave some more blood samples this morning and will be getting the results in a week or so. It looks like there is a chance the current pregancy might be affected (assuming the original results were not wrong) but as it is quite progressed there is a lot that can be done to avoid complications. Fingers crossed!
