My due date is 11th Jan and I've had NO signs of labour at all! Couple of braxton hicks at night but other than that no mucus plug, no backache, no crampiness... I know some woman don't get any signs at all until a few hours before labour starts but it would be nice to see something a little reassuring that i won't go over due!! :(
I just feel like I've felt for weeks now, just normal nothings changing... Any one else still waiting and care for a moan ?! :)
Oh also i have my Midwifes appointment on Thursday and i'll be one day shy of 39 weeks, do you reckon i could ask my midwife for a sweep or do they only do those at 40 weeks??

I know that the end of pregnancy can be miserable, but honestly for your own sanity I think you need to stop over analysing and thinking going overdue would be the worst thing in the world. Or do you have a complication that is making it particularly horrid?

I went 8 and 9 days over with mine. It's horrid at the time, but it's the blink of an eye really. I know that's no consolation now, but if you're getting worked up at not even 39 weeks it's going to feel even longer and you'll just get more sad Sad.

If you are going to go over, you will, and a sweep only gets things going if it's imminent. It can sort of 'tip the balance' IYSWIM.

PS my area only did sweeps when you were over dates.

Midwives tend to sweep at term or after. Not before generally.

Is this your first? It is entirely possible that you might go overdue. But even if you don't, you've got another 10 days until your due date and so it's really too soon to be having signs of labour.

As an example, dd was born on her due date. Mucus plug went at same time as waters after about 36 hours of "is this it, it is, it isn't, is it?"

Ds1 (7 days late), mucus plug went 2 days before labour. Waters didn't break! He was born in his amniotic sac. In terms of pain or gripes, only in the couple of hours leading up to onset of labour. Slight niggles in the morning of the day he was born. 3 hour labour. Had a sweep when 40 + 3 but cervix unfavourable.

Ds2. 3 days early. No pain, just big Braxton hicks. Waters broke. He was born an hour later. No show to speak of.

You're getting braxton hicks - that's a good sign. And really there is no knowing at this stages whether you will be early, on time, or late. Something useful that I tried to do was imagine that my due date was actually a week later. Because so many first labours are late.

I've had labour signs with both of mine weeks before been due, had steroid injections at 35wk with ds1 as it looked like he was making an apperance, I ended up been induced at 42wks.

Ds2 I started loosing my plug really early and I mean 26wks but it regenerates, and was getting constant signs from 37wks, I went into labour on my due date, but it lasted 5 days so had him 40+5.

I honestly don't think even signs mean there coming any time soon, while people can have not a sign at all then suddenly there in labour. I wouldn't worry tbh relax and enjoy the last bit of it (even though it is a pain and you just want the baby out) it will happen when it happens xx

Hi Kima, I'm 39 +4 and can sympathise with you all the way. Everyone, myself included, was convinced this baby would be early as my DD was 2wks early. I can't ring anyone without them thinking it must be news of the new arrival and am fed up with dumb comments in the supermarket of "havn't had it yet then". Well no - I'm still the size of an obese hippopotamus and I can't get close enough to the checkout to pack my own bags because bump is in the way. Of course I havn't bloody had it! Sorry am ranting now, but am longing for the first twinges of labour, the end of this pregnancy and knowing that my baby is safely out. As for relaxing about it - excellent idea in theory. Really wish I could put it into practice. Hope baby doesn't keep you waiting too much longer. They can't stay inside for ever!

I'm 39+2 with my 2nd baby and know exactly how u feel! My DD was born at 37+5 and everyone including my midwife presumed that this baby would also arrive early but no such luck!! I haven't had any signs that labour is imminent at all, no show, no braxton hicks, no cramps, nothing Hmm

Mw shouldn't offer you a sweep till 41 wks and you're not officially post dates until 42 wks. Human term pregnancy is anything from 38-42 wks.

Try and do some nice things for yourself, go out to dinner, have fun with your bump, paint it, was for me to say but try and relax , you will labour when the time is right .
