Another putting on weight question? Have I put on enough?!

Am 5ft 8 - weighed 9st 4lbs before getting pregnant 58/59kgs. Now 22 weeks pregnant I've only put on 10lbs. Is this okay? I'm now on antacids because of severe heartburn and am hoping I can go back to eating cheese and salads and all the things I love and normally eat. Baby is fine according to the three scans I've had and midwife and GP are not worried. But with DD I went from 8st 12lbs to just over 12st - which felt 'right' and I lost it within five months. Are there any mums out there who put on under 2 stone during pregnancy - and was baby ok?!r

I only put on 6lb and another girl at work actually lost weight. My baby is absolutely normal and is a perfect weight 8mths on. She was only 6lb 10oz at birth but was totally fine

I lost weight in first half put it back on in 2nd half went into labour weighing exactly same as my pre pregnancy weight, he was born at 9ib and apgar scores were 10 straight away. First pregnancy I went from 7.5st to 11.5st and he was born 6.8 2wks late. (i lost all the weight I'd put on)

So my 2nd time of me putting nothing on did not affect baby whatsoever seemed to make him bigger xx

I only out on about a stone but I was overweight to start with and was advised not to put on too much. When I was pregnant I was told the following (1,2,3 rule):
if starting off overweight - aim for 1 stone gain
if normal weight - around a 2 stone gain
if starting off underweight - around a 3 stone gain

Thanks dish I should put on at least another 7lbs surely.beckie that is good to know - my DD wasn't particularly big 7.5lbs and born at 42week so my lack of massive weight gain will hopefully make no difference.

I know thats what I'm saying my ds1 was only 6ib 8 2wk over, with huge weight gain. Ds2 with no weight gain was 9ib. But I was quite ill cudnt eat or anything for 1st 20 weeks so I think he just took lots of extras out of me Haha. Midwifes were quite shocked as subsequent children are normaly not too much different in weight to the 1st. Baby will be fine don't worry our bodys provide everthing they need x

My sister actually lost loads of weight during pregnancy, the thought of eating anything fatty terrified her thinking it wasn't good for baby. She had him at 37 weeks weighing 5lb 6oz. He is now 3 months old and weighs well over 13lb... Such a happy and healthy baby. I wouldn't worry one bit. Me on the other hand, has put on 3 and a half stone, and I'm due Thursday. Slightly praying for it to 'fall off!' Grin

I'm 19 weeks tommorow and have lost 1lb since I fell pregnant. It's all down to the morning sickness (which sadly is still lingering) so I'm not worried about it, I'm hoping when I start to feel normal again, my appetite will come back with a vengeance and I'll start piling on the pounds :-)

Your body always prioritises your baby's needs over yours, so if I don't put on much weight, I'll feel fairly confident that my baby is getting all his needs met first (and I'm a poor second!)

I find that it's the third trimester when all the weight goes on Xmas Wink

I lost 2 stone in my pregnancy due to hyperemesis. DS is a happy healthy little boy. I wouldn't worry if I were you!

I think if you google that weight gain is often seen to correlate with pre preg weight and BMI
Lower BMI needs to and Should gain more but overweight or higher BMI need not
My last pg I really really tried not to gain too much and starred roughly same height and weight as you op and ended up 11.5 stone
Baby however was big for dates and brought two weeks early at 8lbs 10 oz! I was much happier post natally for carrying less excess

BionicEmu · 31/12/2012 17:59

Last pregnancy I put on about 3 stone, and DS came 6 weeks early weighing a massive 6lb 3oz!

I'm now almost 36 weeks with DC2, and due mainly to bad "morning" sickness I currently weigh 0.5 stone less than my booking in weight (was overweight with bmi of 35 anyway though). Growth scan at 34 weeks shows this is another massive baby though!

shineypeacock · 01/01/2013 12:06

Hi, im 10 weeks and have lost a stone since getting pregnant, i saw my midwife yesterday and she said not to worry about weight gain or weight loss, as the baby will take from you what it needs and leave you with the rubbish!

I however am overweight and loosing some weight is not a bad thing at the mo!

I find although im eating more often, im eating less, oh and not drinking might have helped a bit too!

Emandlu · 01/01/2013 12:12

I lost weight through both my pregnancies. One of my kids was over 9lbs and the other over 10lbs. Both were fine and hadn't suffered through my not putting weight on.

dyzzidi · 01/01/2013 12:17

I lost weight all the way through my pregnancy but then I was very overweight to begin with. On the day I had dd I had actually put on four pounds in total. To be honest it was not intentional but happened as I upped my fruit and veg intake and tried to eat healthier as I was pg.

The doctors seemed to think this was fine.

FortyFacedFuckers · 01/01/2013 12:19

I was a size ten when I fell pregnant and only put on 10lbs my baby was 7lb 15 when he was born and he was perfectly healthy Grin
