Odd Baby Position!!??

Hello, I've just been at the hospital (im 36+4) and i have to go back monday for a scan as there is some ambiguity about what my baby is doing.

My normal midwives aren't sure, and i saw three at the hospital and they cant tell what position he's in either. I find this rather strange as surely between them all they've seen hundreds of babies, but they all commented that they'd not seen anything like mine before, and it was lucky they didnt have to try and explain it to any students!

Im confused. There just seems to be too many bumps, and my stomach looks triangular. So far, the majority think he's transverse, with a few breech, but as there appears to be something in my pelvic region, one or two think he might be head down.

Has this happened to anyone else???

Bumping for you.

I have no idea sorry, sounds very intriguing though.

Discussing scans (34W position one) with my MW she said that in most cases a MW can tell... but there are plenty of ppl on here who went into back-to-back or other slightly non-standard labours without knowing because they /can't/ always tell.

At least you'll know on Monday! (Well, where he is now at any rate... he could have a few more weeks to wriggle in I guess!)

Happened to me! 34 weeks felt the baby move from head down to breech, 36 weeks got sent for a scan as midwife unsure and could feel a hard lump in my pelvis which she thought was head but also a hard lump at the top (apparently a bony bum!)

Scan midwife confidently told me she could always tell where a baby was - felt and was baffled by 2 hard lumps! Put scan on my lovely son was breech and his bum was in my pelvis.

4 days later appt on delivery suite with consultant for ecv, she felt and thought baby had turned as head felt engaged. Another scan still breech but bum fully engaged.

Forward on 2 weeks, elcs date (due to breech) dr felt again and thought baby had turned and engaged in which case they were going to try and break waters as had a potentially wiggly baby that could turn again. Scan revealed still very much breech and 2 hours later had my baby by elcs (now 4 weeks old and still likes the breech frogs legs position!)

So I guess all these health professionals don't always know where babies are (and I thought i'd be an easy person to tell as size 8 with a small bump!)
