No weight gain at 12 weeks - normal??

Well just that really - in fact I've lost a lb! I am getting a little bit of a tummy but that's it. I'm 5ft2 and 8st 12lb so not super slim or overweight. Just wondering whether I should have gained more than this and a little worried! :-(

Totally normal. More often than not weight goes on in the second half of the second trimester and most of it in the third trimester. At 12 weeks your body has been concentrating on building your baby and that takes so much energy that there is often little left for your own body. Just eat to your appetite and relax.

LaCiccolina · 29/12/2012 09:44

Nope. Perfectly normal. Preg 1 I only put on a stone the entire time. I kept asking professionals who all said it was fine. You really aren't supposed to put on much extra weight. This is because the baby and the placenta will match each other, so if baby is a pound so is placenta. So when dd1 was born she weighed 7.11 and placenta wasn't much more which was roughly exactly the weight I added.

This time I ate chocolate like a nut in October so have put on a few lb and am kicking myself as its all gotta come off after :( bit more work.

So, happy eating but really don't over do it. It doesn't help u or baby. Just eat normally.

OComeAllYeFaithBaby · 29/12/2012 09:44

I am 23+3 and have now gained a total of...3lb! I had a BMI of 30 to start with so am fairly happy with that. I've put it down to two things - 1. The type of work I do (running around on a ward for 12 hours a day!) and 2. Generally getting full quickly. I get really hungry but I feel full so I don't overindulge! I wouldn't worry too much :)

TwoCatsAndABabyBump · 29/12/2012 09:47

Totally normal. I'm 7 months pregnant. Lost just over a stone in the first 3 months, (through nausea and loss of appetite, not dieting!) and only recently at 29 weeks I've gained less than half a stone so still weigh less than before I got pregnant.

Clarabell78 · 29/12/2012 09:49

The getting full quickly thing is really annoying! I used to be able to eat loads more but at the moment I can eat about half what i would normally then I'm stuffed! I was figuring that's just down to digestion. slowing down

Normal :) I lost over 1 and half stone in 1st 12wks with ds2 taking me to 7 stone 6 at 5'6 looked really ill, I went into labour around the same weight as I was pre pregnancy around 9st ish. Ds was a quite big 9ib so didn't affect him whatsoever, fair to see when baby come away aswell as placenta and extra fluid I was tiny again, but it sorted itself out over next few months :) xxx

Amnewtoallthis · 29/12/2012 12:44

I gained nothing in first 16 weeks! Morning sickness was awful this time round - have 4yo DD. And my BMI was 20 - am 5ft 7 and weighed 9st 6lbs before getting pregnant. Now 22 weeks and have gained 11lbs - all on bump. And my normal clothes still fit - apart from jean buttons not doing up!. Baby is fine.

LittlemissChristmas · 29/12/2012 12:55

I'm 16 weeks and with ms and various colds etc i have lost a stone. Doesn't mean my jeans fit though!!

TinkyPeet · 29/12/2012 13:18

I haven't put any weight on either, but then again I have been advised not to really if I can help it :/ x

huni1701 · 29/12/2012 13:33

Normal id say. With my first I didn't gain anything until I hit my third tri, I was massive at abt 20 weeks but no weight gain, all belly, id lost from other places. But from 28-37 weeks when I delivered I had gained 2 stone!
Now 2nd pregnancy only 4 months later, im 10 weeks into it and no gain yet, but im expecting to get much bigger this time.

Good luck and dont worry, as long as your baby is growing ok which im sure he/she is and will confirm at the scans, then your fine.
X

nannyl · 29/12/2012 13:54

Normal.

Your baby is extremely small.

OK im 15 weeks and a stone less than I started due to hg.

JoJoCK · 29/12/2012 19:34

I didn't put on any weight at all for the first 14 weeks of pregnancy, I am now 36 weeks and have put on 3 stone! So every person is different based on the posts here!

Mylittlepuds · 29/12/2012 21:43

23 weeks and not put on a lb! Quite smug really. MW says it's fine - baby measuring fine. Put lots more on by this point with DS. But like a few above had said I would be very surprised if it doesn't change very soon - appetite gone bezerk!

This will give you the healthy weight gain by week:

My advice is to try and gain in the second trimester as once in the third a combination of a squashed stomach and heart burn will prevent you from eating properly.

rainand · 29/12/2012 22:51

Normal. I lost weight during the 1st trimester.

Emsyboo · 29/12/2012 23:08

Perfectly normal I lost 10lbs first trimester (and I was slim to start 9st3 and 5'8'') but I certainly made up for it the next 6 months gaining 4 stone from pre pregnancy weight nearly 5 stone including the weight I lost lol!
This pregnancy I stayed the same first pregnancy and have been gaining about a lb a week since but every pregnancy and baby is different.
After about 20 weeks your midwife will start measuring bump (fundal measurement) and as long as that is fine you will be ok eat healthily if possible and let your body lead you x x

Rache1S · 30/12/2012 00:00

I am 14 weeks with #1 and I haven't put any on yet any my appetite has stayed normal. Scan shows everything is ok so I'm thinking it's a good thing. My belly is now a bit swollen though.

LetMeAtTheWine · 30/12/2012 22:38

I am 19 weeks and have lost a stone, despite having grown a healthy bump. Measurements at last two scans were fine though and have been told weight loss is nothing to worry about (may well put it back on, and more, through the rest of pregnancy). I have been lucky enough not to have suffered any sickness, think it is just down to eating more healthily and a reduced appetite.
