26 weeks & swollen face?

26 weeks with PFB and I can't quite figure out what is going on with my body anymore!

My feet have swollen a bit in the past few weeks, but as I'm a nurse and do 12 hours shifts I haven't really given it much thought. My hands are a teensy bit swollen in the mornings, it's only noticeable as my engagement ring looks tighter.

Anyways, today my face feels like I've been doing a headstand. Like all the blood has rushed to my head and the skin is running out of room. I laid flat on my back for about an hour today and that's when it started..but it isn't a pleasant feeling and hasnt stopped since. My face doesn't look swollen, but it feels it.

Could anyone tell me what on earth is going on? Should I be worried?

I would get seen ASAP. This sounds like it could be pre-eclampsia. Hopefully it's not, but you need to get it checked out cos if it is, left untreated it can be v serious for you & your baby. Phone the hospital & I'd pack a quick overnight bag in case you need to stay in. Others can then fetch anything you need IF you have to stay in longer. Hope it all works out ok for you both!

Agree, definitely get yourself to hospital just incase. Fingers crossed its a false alarm but it can.be a sign of pre-eclampsia, won't hurt to.get checked out. Xx

I don't know anything about this but agree you need to get seen ASAP as that doesn't sound right! Hope it turns out ok, good luck and let us know how you get on.

I don't want to alarm you but get this checked out asap just in case its pre-eclampsia. Facial swelling is not normal in pregnancy. I had pre-eclampsia at 26 weeks and it tends to be more serious and progress faster the earlier it strikes (I just survived, my DD didn't). Facial swelling was one of the most obvious symptoms for me. (along with mild head aches / facial pain).

Oh gosh, I just thought I'd drank too much tea today! Have called the triage and am on my way to the hospital now. Thanks for all your advice everyone xx

Try not to worry, the main thing is to get it checked out. Best of luck x

I hope you're ok & that it turned out to be a false alarm

CatchingMockingbirds · 29/12/2012 10:47

Thinking of you x

crunchingicicles · 29/12/2012 11:04

Morning. Also been thinking of you. Hope you're both ok!

Dannilion · 29/12/2012 14:37

Awwwh, coming back on this thread and reading that you've been thinking about me has brought a tear (or 10) to my eye, damn hormones!

I'm fine and little baby is fine, bp was a tiny bit high but there wasn't a single trace of protein in my wee so MW just told me to stop overdoing it and 'take that bloody ring off!'.

Thanks again for all your advice ladies Thanks

Oh I'm so pleased to hear that, make sure you go back if you feel worse won't you!! Thanks for updating us xx

lotsofcheese · 29/12/2012 17:41

So relieved to hear that you're ok. Away & put yer feet up! (After taking ring off, of course!)

crunchingicicles · 29/12/2012 18:36

Yeay, doing a little happy dance! Grin And, erm, yeah, take that ring off, put your feet up & see if you can get shorter shifts... Also, may be worth trying Natal Hypnotherapy's Relaxation in Pregnancy CD. I find it very useful & often better than a nap!
