..did nipple twiddling actually work?

Because I really cannot be bothered with it, but am 9 days over now, and if it works I will do it.

Nope. Nor did pineapple, raspberry leaf tea, curry, didn't try sex (I mean REALLY??? whose idea was that? Physical impossibility, frankly). Still went 16 days over and had to be induced.

colditz · 15/04/2006 19:40

Oh that thing about "Oh have sex, that will get you moving!"

a)people who say this have either no children, or only one and have never been pregnant while caring for a 2 year old all day.

b)Dp is not a somnophiliac, which frankly he would have to be to get anywhere near me while I'm horizontal.

c)I am 5'2". I have short arms, short thighs and a massive bump. Doggy style doesn't work anymore.

d)Dp has a fear that the waters will break all over him

It isn't going to happen.

Now Colditz... I'm sure that all the baby is doing is waiting for my birthday. I don't know why you are in such a rush.

teabags · 15/04/2006 19:44

nipple tweaking only works if done for HOURS every day. forget it!

I did all the usual PLUS sex (hideous)........ in the end I sneezed and my waters popped!

just chill out if you can, read a book, watch a few dvd's, sleep as much as poss, because in the end it will happen! all the best

colditz · 15/04/2006 19:47

Marsy you are going to get such a thwack when this baby has podded!!!!!!!!!Grin

i just don't want a repeat of ds's birth. Horrible.

LadyTophamHatt · 15/04/2006 19:47

eat tonnes of grapes.
Loads and loads and loads of them.

It will bring on the shits and so start labour. did for me twice!

teabags · 15/04/2006 19:48

when I was in labour the midwife old me the pessary they induce with is like concentrated sperm but much much stronger than sperm. Even then it doesn't always work for some women. So I really don't think sex can be an effective method!

NotAnOtter · 15/04/2006 19:48

get dp to have a good rummage!

LadySherlockofLGJ · 15/04/2006 19:50

teabags

3 rounds of that Prostaglandin pessary.............and DS still came out through the sunroof.

Will spare you the bits in between Colditz. Grin

starlover · 15/04/2006 19:53

i did EVERYTHING and nothing worked! he was still 2 weeks overdue

tried:
curry
raspberry leaf tea
gin
hot bath
pineapple
sex
pressing big toe
nipple tweaking
walking up and down stairs

I also combined some of them... ie sat in a hot bath drinking raspberry leaf tea with gin! (sadly I am not joking...)

MadameDeMars · 15/04/2006 20:01

it's only 9 days away colditz.............. rofl Grin

blondie82 · 15/04/2006 20:20

i had castor oil, within a couple of hours after taking it i was having contractions.
Castor oil isnt everyones cup of tea though... :o

Gillian76 · 15/04/2006 20:23

Castor oil is truly awful. :(

MIL suggested it when I was a week over with DD1. It was vile! But she did come the following day.

You are sick of hearing this, but it really will just come when it's ready.

blondie82 · 15/04/2006 20:24

I just mixed a teaspoon with a little orange juice and knocked it back...

sarahlou1uk · 16/04/2006 20:41

I was 8 days over when I tried raspberry leaf tea. Next day I went into labour. I'm going to try this again (due in August) if I go over again.

PutAPeachyInYourSimnelCake · 16/04/2006 20:52

Don't you have to do 45 minutes on each nipple, umpteen times a day? I did manage the quota once (DS3 was late, a shick after 2 early babies) and it did start contractions actually but nothing that kept going.

It was a long walk and raspberry leaf capsules that did it for me- but it probably would have happened anyway. However, taking the capsules by the handful certainly strengthened the contractions and led to a speedy delivery.

GDG · 16/04/2006 20:55

nope. i don't think anything works tbh. although did have sex when due with ds2 and 4 hours later was in labour - worth a shot?!

teacups · 16/04/2006 21:02

Please don't do the castor oil! The last thing you need is a good dose of the runs, whether it brings on labour or not.

Like starlover, I tried everything (apart from castor oil, warned off by the lovely mears Grin) and DD wasn't budging. My consultant suggested champagne and lobster, as there is supposedly somethig in the lobster which might do the trick. She said the champagne would make me mind less if it didn't work! She was right. Grin

It;s so sodding awful waiting but you will have your baby by this time next week whatever - stock up on the cake in the meantime.

hulababy · 16/04/2006 21:08

For me nothing worked, not even the full induction. DD was eventually born after 50 hours of induction, 2 week's late, and by c section!

beansprout · 16/04/2006 21:12

I had the same thing as hulababy. I also tried 2 lots of accupuncture. Didn't work.

Enid · 17/04/2006 12:05

sorry but castor oil is my plan if this one is looking too late for a homebirth
dh can clear it up Grin

Enid · 17/04/2006 12:05

have you had a sweep? It worked for me when nothing else did

Jackstini · 17/04/2006 12:19

Sex from behind did do the job of breaking my waters and starting contractions for me, I was 9 days over.

(Unfortunately my cervix decided to ignore this and had CS 36 hours later when still only 1.5cm dilated!)

CarolinaMooncup · 17/04/2006 12:55

I had endless cups of raspberry leaf tea and it made no difference at all. The daily pineapple and 3 sessions of acupuncture were no use either, or the long walks every evening.

I went into labour 13 days overdue but I'd been having bouts of regular Braxton Hickses (as in several hours at a time, 15 mins apart) for a week. I think what finally kickstarted it was having an orgasm (not actually penetrative iyswim, sorry if this is tmi). It was fun anyway, and no acrobatics needed Smile.

Good luck colditz!

Bugsy2 · 17/04/2006 13:37

I did all of it as well and no, nothing worked. Had to be induced 2 wks over.
If at all possible, just relax & try and make the most of the last few days with only one to look after Colditz. I know you probably think that you will never actually give birth - but you definitely will and induction isn't that bad - in fact it was infinitely better than my first time birth!
