Lost my mucous plug. How can I get this baby to stay inside for another week?

PG with #2. 3 days ago lost a bit of my mucous plug. today lost a large amount more. At least I'm guessing that's what it is.

Baby due on 8th Jan, booked in for c-section week before.

REALLY, really don't want to go into hospital, or be in hospital on xmas day for a variety of reasons, the main one being it is the first christmas without my dad :(

How can I realistically keep this baby in? Should I just restrict my movements? sit and rest a lot? Hard with another dd and christmas dinner/day to sort out, but willing to try anything!

That baby will make an appearance when it's ready to come out regardless of whether it's convenient for you!

Honestly I don't know. I think babies often turn up when they feel like it Grin
But if it helps I lost mine with DD (also DC2) and didn't go into labour until maybe 10 days later.. I think sometimes it means things are happening and sometimes it means things are gearing up to happen in the next few weeks. Fingers crossed for you Smile

Mucus plugs can regenerate. Losing one means nothing. I lost mine a good week before DS made an appearance, and I've been losing my plug with this one for the last two weeks, and I'm fairly sure even at over 39 weeks birth is not imminent.

Emsyboo · 23/12/2012 21:35

With DS (now 23 months) I list my mucous plug at 36 weeks ended up having to be induced weeks later. As long as your waters don't break you should be fine baby will come when it's ready good luck x

Lost my plug at 35 weeks, had DD at 39+5 :) Merry Christmas!

BumgrapesofWrath · 23/12/2012 21:49

I lost my mucus plug at 36 weeks, and baby didn't com til 41 weeks so don't panic!!

Shelium · 23/12/2012 22:23

Grin thanks all, let's hope this baby complies!!!

Not as long a gap as others on this thread but with DD I lost my plug on the Sunday and she arrived on the Thursday, so would be after Christmas for you if you matched my experience.

Sorry about your dad, I remember my first Christmas without my dad.

beckie90 · 23/12/2012 22:43

Started loosing mine at 24wks :/ they regenerate so dusnt really mean its imminent unless its the bloody show which is really large amount and blood stained. I was loosing the mucus plug in bits for 16wk has regular checks all was fine, went into labour on my due date x

Riotgrrrl · 23/12/2012 23:10

I lost my plug at about 37 weeks, DS1 was induced at 41+4 days. Midwife said to me if you want the baby to come keep moving for the next 48 hrs, if not take it easy. Don't know if that actually works but took it easy and as I said had to be induced. Smile

GreatCongas · 23/12/2012 23:10

Less babies are born on Christmas Day than any other

HarlettHoHoHoScara · 23/12/2012 23:15

My plug went at 40+1. Labour started at 40+9.

Hope baby stays put until your c-section date.

pumpkinsweetieMasPudding · 23/12/2012 23:25

If its any help, my friend lost her plug and continued to lose it from 34 weeks onwards. Baby was late by more than a week, so you never know Smile

BoomBoomBoom · 23/12/2012 23:31

I lost my mucus plug at 31weeks. I'm now 34 weeks and no sign of baby.

Cerealqueen · 23/12/2012 23:39

Hmm, I really think if you are getting that worked up about having the baby your body might not be ready anyway.

Cerealqueen · 23/12/2012 23:40

Sorry about your Dad by the way, been there, still am, it is hard but gets easier.

212VIP · 24/12/2012 10:20

How are things Shelium?
Has anything more happened overnight? x

Shelium · 24/12/2012 14:05

Thanks for your reassurance :) no news thankfully, am just hoping things stay calm for st least another 24 hours so mum isn't left on her own on Xmas day :)

An still losing plug in dribs and drabs, but hopefully it is just my body getting ready and not actually about to give birth right now!!

I lost mine around due date with all.of mine, they were all more than two weeks late. Its a sign things may be getting ready, not that labour is imminent.

Try and take it easy and fingers crossed baby stays put!
