Hi, I'm really worried at the moment I have a broken ankle and am in a cast I'm 36 weeks pregnant. I was in supermarket yesterday and a lady approached me and said I can't believe the hosp have put u in a cast at this late stage of pregnancy! She said its dangerous because of swelling I'm now worried! What can I do? Is it dangerous?

If your ankles swell you should see your MW as it can be a sign of preeclampsia.

I think some people's swell a bit in late PG.

But from what I've seen of the casts DD has had on her arms, they don't no them stupidly tight.

So long as your toes are warm and pink you're fine.
I believe the easiest way is to your nails, if their nice and pink oxygenated blood is getting there.

What bone is broken? Anyway doesn't really matter. What are you worried about? I assume you're in a back slab and have a follow up appointment soon. People always have a comment on your pregnancy

Obviously check that your toes are pink, warm abpnd that you can move them.

Thanks.... I werent worried until the lady in the shop said something she told me to ask doctors for a walking boot but they have already said no to that as they don't want me putting weight on my foot at all. It's my ankle that's broken (stress fracture) but 2 bones on top of my foot are broken. Oh the joy!!!! X

I broke my ankle (all 3 bones) at 34 weeks and was in a cast for 6 weeks. Had a rocker on the cast for the last two weeks. All was fine dd was 9 days late so I was back on my feet for a week before she was born. I was told to report any swelling or pain to the hospital because the fracture and inactivity and pregnancy increased the risk of thrombosis but that was all.
