Prawn cocktail....

So, I'm avoiding the pâté on Tuesday, not entirely keen on it anyway so it's not gonna be a huge problem for me lol, but what would be an issue is if I would have to give up my prawn cocktail :( I mean it's only a few prawns and a couple of slivers or salmon, I've gone through the list of no's, it says avoid smoked but salmon is ok but says nothing about prawns, am I gonna have to mess about cooking my own little bits of fish? Or shall I just get on with it? What's everyone else doing? X

It's what I'm planning to have while I lustfully look at my husband's pate. The NHS website says "You can safely eat prawns in pregnancy as long as they are cooked thoroughly until steaming hot. You can also eat them if they have been previously cooked, for example in a prawn sandwich."

Bah, will have to faff about grilling them first then lol. Never mind I suppose it will only take a couple of minutes. We normally just get the packs of 'ready to eat' from morrisons but I think they're uncooked. Thanks x

Ready to eat prawns have been cooked. Uncooked prawns are blue and squishy. Nobody would want to eat those. Pregnant or not!

Ready made M&S prawm cocktail for me.

I looked on the Nhs website and it said smoked salmon is ok, in some countries its advised not to eat smoked or cured foods but ok in uk.

Think PIL have got smoked salmon for xmas day starter, so will have to eat it, as ive said its ok! Prawn sarnies are fine tho xx

LOL you don't need to grill or cook any of it, enjoy you are allowed! I have eaten several packets of smoked salmon during pregnancy, no issues.

bigkidsdidit · 22/12/2012 11:55

I had a smoked salmon sandwich from pret every single morning of. Y last pregnancy. Both pink prawns and smoked salmon are fine in the uk :)

I think it's more of a potential food poisoning issue than anything else. I've been eating seafood all the way through (@ 38 weeks). No problems! Definitely had prawn cocktail at least once.
