Hi all
I am 6weeks and 5 days at the moment and just about getting my head around being pregnant and all that goes with it.
I was just wondering - I have had some very minor cramp every now and again which I understand is normal, however I know that pain sometimes must be a bad thing and not just normal stretching etc. How will I know if what I'm feeling is okay or is something going wrong? Does it feel different?
Thank you in advance I am such a worry wart that this is going to be a looooooong 9 months xxx

Hi, I was told by the midwife that as long as its not unbearable and you're not bleeding its probably just normal stretching. I'm 29 weeks now and still going strong so that advice didn't harm BUT usual rules apply; if you feel like there might be something wrong ring the midwife. There's no such thing as being stupid or over reacting when a 2 min phone call can put your mind at rest.

I had bad cramping in early pregnancy with my first. I can now say the pains felt exactly like when I was in established labour. They floored me and I fainted a few times - cue rushed to EPU for scans as they thought it was ectopic and admission is hospital for pain relief and investigations. I had no bleeding and turns out baby was fine - he is 2 now. They still were unsure what was going on in there - maybe a burst cyst they said but unsure. You will know if you have this type of cramping, takes your speech away, unable to walk, on the floor and obviously any bleeding should be investigated. Your midwife will be able to explain more when you see her for booking in.

I will add that I just had gas and air throughout my labour and felt I could cope with the pain as I knew it was normal. With the cramping it may have been worse as I was anxious and didn't know what was going on!
