Ahhh, I am 39+4 days pregnant, just been to see the midwife and as my children have a history of being late babies I have been offered a sweep, on Christmas Eve.

I am due on Christmas Day but having a sweep could bring labour on and I dont want to be in hospital on Christmas Day.

But, my youngest son was 15 days late and I was induced and had a sweep with him and it did NOTHING. I even had my waters popped, again nothing, so I could be worrying about going into labour on Christmas Eve/Day when it could be a big let down again and nothing happens.

But, I want the sweep as I have had enough and want this baby out now!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Sorry, pressed post too soon - should I go for the sweep and accept my fate or hold off till after Christmas which would take me to nearly 41 weeks.

I had two sweeps and neither worked to be honest. My midwife wouldnt do one until I was overdue though - so how about seeing if they can do it the day after boxing day instead? That would give you a few days to enjoy xmas and you will only be 40+2 so not massively overdue at that point? I remember feeling really fed up by this point and wanting the baby out too, but it will only come if it;s ready! (you probably want top slap me for saying that sorry!)

hi i have been offered a sweep on either 23rd or 24th if i wish i am due on 23rd! however i have decided to wait and booked it for the 28th when i will be nearly 41 weeks! i think it will just be down to personal preference and just because i have taken this route to stop me worrying (although baby will come when ready, which could well be Christmas day regardless) doesn't mean it is right for you! sorry i no that was not very helpful but thought i would share my plans and maybe like rowan has suggested you can book it for the 27th

I've had sweeps with all 3of mine and can't say they did anything for me . however I think if I was in your posistion I'd leave it till after christmas just in case (knowing that if ever theres a time it will work for you u can guarantee it will be when you don't want it too) lol

I had a sweep with our first, I found it very unpleasant and it didn't work, as I went into labour a week later!

Francagoestohollywood · 21/12/2012 12:40

I would wait, if all well with baby/amniotic fluid, etc.

I had 2 sweeps with DD2, she arrived about 8 hours after the second one. Tbh I was good to go anyway, but I'm sure the sweep kick started labour.

Spoken to DP, he doesnt want me to have the sweep on Christmas Eve. It probably wouldnt work anyway, didnt before!

I am going to try and book a sweep for the 27th or 28th, its not like I go out on New Years Eve so wouldnt mind if i missed it!
