Noro virus and morning sickness, to eat or not to eat?

Has anybody else had the Noro Virus whilst pregnant? I am 28 weeks but still sick if I have an empty stomach.

I haven't even been able to keep water down for 12 hours+ but now I have that familiar hunger pang sensation which makes me wonder if it is now the MS making me sick and it would be better if I ate something. In non Noro circs I can't keep water down in the morning until i have eaten anyway.

Sorry if that is all a bit garbled, have had no sleep, but would appreciate others experiences.

Hi there sorry you aren't well and I wish you a speedy recovery.
I can really sympathise with you I'm 31 weeks and had nuro virus at 26 weeks. I couldn't keep down water and I didn't eat for 36 hours. I did visit the Dr and there is nothing they can do. The only thing I got was hydration sachets as its really important not to get dehydrated. This stuff was disgusting but worth it to keep you and baby safe. I could only manage a tea spoon every 30 mins. Don't worry about forcing yourself to eat, you'll know when your up to it and babies are very resilient.
All the best for a speedy recovery x

If you think you can keep it down I'd try something dry - just toast maybe?

Thank you for your replies, have had two tablespoons of very diluted apple juice, rock and roll. Think I will just have to tough it out. Have some rehydration salts and anti emetics left over from when my MS was a its worst so will have some of the rehydration stuff at least. Just don't want it to stray back into morning sickness without me noticing. Have to eat roughly once an hour to keep that at bay.

Hi, you have my full sympathies too. I'm nearly 31 weeks and had Norovirus 4 weeks ago. I couldn't keep anything down at all for about 14 hours and ended up needing IV fluids and anti-emetics in hospital. I had got worried as my urine output was next to nothing and what I was passing was very, very concentrated so keep an eye on that as you made need some intravenous treatment if you still can't keep fluids down. My pregnancy sickness ramped up a gear after the virus had gone but took on more of a reflux pattern so now I'm on Ranitidine which has reduced my sickness to 3-4 times a week (from 3-4 times a day!)

One thing to watch out for is that in an effort to try and settle my stomach after the bug I ate very little food and chose dry/bland food groups. The unfortunate consequence of this was me becoming constipated which led to piles as well - oh the joys of pregnancy!! So I would strongly recommend re-introducing some fibre rich foods as soon as possible to avoid that scenario! Xmas Wink Hope you're feeling much better very soon.

Thank you very much for sharing your experiences. Can keep fluids down now so not too worried anymore, just sad to have it so close to Xmas.

Sorry to hear you were so ill Olive, good tip on the fibre have just struggled my way through the online Xmas order and added some apples for good measure.

I had it at 12 weeks. I remember that I couldn't even keep water down and went of drinking it the next few days. I ended up having sips of lemonade which seemed to stay down. I also suddenly had bad hunger pains a few hours after being sick so I had some toast which I did keep down so I must have needed. I phoned the doc as I had terrible pains with the bug and she said to try lemonade as it gives you a bit of sugar back. Hope u feel better soon x
