I'm 14 weeks and my skin is so awful! Spots all over my face, my neck, backs of my shoulders, chest, even some on my boobs! I'm really fair skinned as well so it just looks horrendous! It didn't bother me at first as I was still feeling too sick to care but now I'm starting to feel better and I've realised what a mess I look!

Has anyone else experienced this? I know it must be hormonal but is it likely to clear up soon? or has anyone had bad skin throughout their whole pregnancy?

Hi there. I totally sympathise with u. When I'm pregnant I get bad skin, terrible in fact! I'm 32 weeks pregnant with my second and again my skin is awful. It always is throughout. Obviously everyone is different and urs might clear up. The best thing I would recommend is tea tree oil to help the spots and mineral powder makeup to cover up. Foundation and concealer just aren't enough for my face lol. Congratulations and I hope that helps. Oh and I hope unlike me it clears up :)

Hadn't thought of tea tree oil, thanks :) Yes I might as well not bother with makeup as I only have a really light foundation as normally have good skin, by the time I've been in work a couple of hours I look the same as when i rolled out of bed! Will have to go shopping for something better. Still living in hope for that "blooming" stage, ha!

I sympathise too! My skin was awful until about 17 weeks when it started to clear up, so there is hope! Now 35 weeks and skin is looking good and feeling v soft. So hang in there :)

Really feel for you as I had this too. I was given a roll on treatment by the GP but can't remember if it was before or after Lo arrived.

I woke up this morning with an awful spot in the middle of my face, so I can empathise! I need to get back into a strict cleansing regime!

Mine continues to be bad (25wks). It's been a little bit better over past 4 wks, but still not great. I recommend a good concealer (Mac does a good one).

Mine has been quite up and down but before I got pregnant I was on Anti biotics for my skin which I have had to stop taking. In the absence of being able to take any medication, I would recommend:

finding and sticking with a good cleansing routine - this doesn't have to be long winded but have a look in boots or the beauty dpt in John Lewis / Debenhams etc for some good spot clearing cleansers, there is such a good range out there these days and some are even made to be quite gentle if some of your skin is also dry. Many of them have tea tree etc in them.
I would (when possible) use a good skin clearing or soothing mask - I use a great one by Origins which really clams any redness in the spots.

I sometimes try steaming my skin by sicking my head over a sink of hot (but not boiling) water, covering with a towel. this can help the mask to work well.

Also, a good toner from one of the problem skincare ranges will have ingredients that will exfoliate the skin without having to use a scrub - scrubs can sometimes break to the skin over the spots and spread the bacteria in them. This also applies for areas on the body too!

Omega 3 can help!

and as hard as it can be - don't squeeze! although if one really needs it, you can 'on the spot' treatments which help to heal them up and these are great and reducing inflammation. look out for salycilic acid as an ingredient!

Sorry that was a long winded reply but hope it is of some help. I know how rubbish bad skin can make you feel.

Hi I was the same as u from about 6-16 weeks I had terrible spots on my face neck back and shoulders and this morning woke with only one noticeable spot so hopefully you will be like me and your hormones will settle down I'm 19 weeks 2day!

Thanks everyone, great advice! I don't own much in the way of lotions and potions as normally just use mild soap and moisturiser, will have to make a list I think!
Also very glad to hear that it seems to be fairly common. Have a couple of pregnant friends both similar stage to me and not a blemish on them! Was starting to feeling a bit sorry for myself!
