Anyone had a scan before six weeks?

I am being sent for an early scan tomorrow due to v light spotting and some cramps.

Bloods taken and hormone level high enough to send me for scan but what should I expect to see?? What is normal at this stage?

I think they're trying to rule out ectopic so anything in my uterus as opposed to anywhere else will be a good start!

Trying not to worry.

Xmas Hmm

I had a scan bang on 6wk by lmp but think I was more like 5+4 at time, all they picked up was a sac, cudnt see nothing inside, be prepared for a vaginal scan cause they sometimes can't pick it up too early with abdominal scan. My womb tilts into my.back rather then belly though so thats why it.was so hard to pick anything up. I have another scam rebooked for Monday xx

McBobby · 19/12/2012 21:03

I'll be 5+6 days tomorrow.

Thanks for posting. What's lmp?

I had an internal examination and swab today. Neck of womb closed as it should be apparently. That's all I know.

So how many weeks are you now beckie90?

They will just be able to see a sac at this stage I should imagine and where it is, they'll just be ruling out the ectopic and checkign it's in your uterus :) You are almost 6 weeks so there's an outside chance that you may see a heartbeat but don't be alramed if you don't just yet.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 19/12/2012 21:08

I had a 5 week scan and saw a heartbeat, but was told that this was not usual.

There wasn't much to see otherwise TBH. Hope it goes well.

curmit · 19/12/2012 21:08

I had one at 5 weeks. Couldn't see anything by scanning my tummy so had to use an internal thingy - and there it was! A tiny little circle with a flashing light inside (heartbeat) amazing. Good luck! x

beckie90 · 19/12/2012 21:13

Im 7 weeks now, will be 7+5 on Monday bit maybe slightly less, although Sonographer did say the sac was measuring roughly 6wk when she did scan me, you should see more than I could see, its my womb position that makes it very difficult, had same problem with my early scan with my 1st son too. Good luck for tomorow xx

I did with dd at 5+5 and heartbeat seen but was told it had probably just developed in last 12 hours.

McBobby · 19/12/2012 21:57

Thanks all. Good to know possibilities. Hope your scan goes well on Monday beckie90.

Thanks

I had One at 5+4 with ds, was 7wks by lmp but I had a long cycle. I saw a gestational sac (black hole with white ring round it) a yolk sac inside it (paler circular thing inside the black hole) but no baby. I went back a week later and saw the same again, only this time with a white sausage shaped blob next to the yolk sac with a flicker in the middle of it, which i was told was baby with heartbeat. He's a strapping 8yo now.

Sorry to post late but just to say that I had a scan at 5 weeks and they couldn't see anything at all really. There was something there but the doctor said she thought it was a blood clot. They sent us away with a leaflet entitled 'pregnancy of unknown location.' Needless to say, the 'blood clot' was in fact a baby and I am now 32 weeks pregnant. So I guess what I'm saying is don't worry if its too early to see anything and good luck!

FoofFighter · 20/12/2012 13:11

just checking back in to see if there's an update yet x

McBobby · 20/12/2012 13:19

Probable ectopic. Just waiting for.consultant to say whether surgery or not and I'll lose a tube. Cried but just want to be well now and get home to my son.

Hope you get a better outcome.

Hey McBobby, I'm sorry to hear your news - I had the same same thing happen in June, I lost my left tube. It's horrible and shocking at the time because you never imagine it happening to you. You will get through this - keep strong xxx

McBobby · 21/12/2012 04:59

Thanks everyone. Not the outcome I wanted but at least I am fit and well. Or I will be! I still have one working tube and two ovaries and can think about it again in a few months.

Good luck to those of you who are pregnant. Thankfully I have my wonderful little boy to focus on.

Christmas will be fun this year with a three year old!
