4/5th engaged at 34 weeks?

What's normal for 34 weeks?
Does this mean the baby might come early? How long after being 4/5th will it take to get to fully engaged and have baby?

Are you sure you aren't 4/5 palpable?

How long's a piece of string? DD was fully fixed and engaged at 31 weeks. I went into labour at 38 weeks.

DS didn't engage at all and I went into labour at 37 weeks.

And 4/5 usually means that most of the head is still palpable (only 1/5 is actually engaged).

Basically, it means nothing in terms of making predictions. S/he might pop out and be not engaged at all later on today. You just don't know.

for first time mothers once thebaby head is fully engaged you are looking at 2 weeks from then on average. Usually the mw will note how much of the head is palpable so in your example the baby is 1/5 engaged :)

Sure she said 4/5th engaged and I asked if it meant I'd be fully engaged soon she said not necessarily, she could get her hands under the hand anymore. I'm just gonna check notes now

Umm, it's just the baby's head settling into your pelvis. It's a good sign, it means he/she is less likely now to turn to a position that might mean an awkward or assisted birth.

It's not a sign that labour is imminent though. Don't worry just yet! Xmas Smile

My baby's head was 3/5 palpable at 36 weeks. On my due date it was free again so am guessing it does not mean much!!
