I seem to have filled up the old thread and thought I better start a new one! Grin Still got ages to go, don't leave me now...

Am currently sat waiting for my 16 week antenatal appt, been here an hour so far and just had BP done and that's it.

Also had one of 'those' nights last night. Hypos galore. It seems I put up my long acting by half a unit it has massive affects! I needed it though so unsure what to do...

SpottyTeacakes · 29/01/2013 08:07

I think you need to go onto levemir and split it puds.

Yes you will manage it! You get to eat loads if chocolate and still have hypos Hmm Grin

Mylittlepuds · 29/01/2013 08:34

Thanks Spotty. Good idea - shall ask DSN about it pronto!

Is there a case for not taking insulin whilst BFing? I can just remember it being a 10 month fog of hypos last time. I was trying too hard to have my control perfect as it was in pregnancy.

SpottyTeacakes · 29/01/2013 08:39

Puds my nurse said to run myself higher which I have been (think pre meal of 7) but I think I'm ready now to bring it down and start paying attention. You don't want to be worrying so much in those first few weeks...

RueDeWakening · 29/01/2013 12:02

Argh, bloody porridge! Tested after 2 hours, was reasonable (8ish), tested just now before lunch, am 14!!! Remind me not to eat that again :(

Puds - re BFing, just take it one day at a time. Every feed counts.

Hello there, just wanted to say hi. I am a TI and 17 weeks pregnant with number 2. Have a DS aged 4 also. I am v impressed with all your HbA1cs - mine is6.4 and that was the lowest I have ever been and probably only because i kept waking up in the 2s for ages! Nice to be able to hear all your stories. I don't know anyone else who is T1 and pregnant so it's good to find you all.

SpottyTeacakes · 29/01/2013 14:09

Hi Topsy, congratulations! Mine was 5.9 last time but that's the best it's ever been, now I'm not pregnant it's probably eight or something Blush

Hopingforno2 · 29/01/2013 14:25

Welcome topsy

My 2nd too tho im 28 weeks and my ds is 4.5
How are u keeping? Most of us are suprised by our hba1c totally doesnt feel that well controlled for me!

BonaDea · 29/01/2013 17:35

puds - I completely agree with spotty about your nighttime long acting. You need to move onto Levemir and split the dose. In the meantime, I think all you can do is either go to bed a bit higher than range OR have a small 10-15g snack before bed. Sounds counter-intuative but just might work.

Under no circumstances should you stop taking insulin. NEVER EVER EVER. Your body needs it to survive and you would be in ketoacidocis within days. You will just have to reduce doses - probably quite a lot - and could maybe dispense with Novo, but will always need background insulin to keep you ticking over.

Hi Topsy and welcome to our thread. We usually have a lot of fun, even if we do appear to be moaning a lot Wink

SpottyTeacakes · 29/01/2013 17:41

I've never craved chocolate more than I do at the moment I could live on it I blame the breastfeeding. Also get freaked by the incredible thirst luckily it can be quenched again all down to the breastfeeding!

BonaDea · 29/01/2013 17:45

Must be weird because I always associated extreme thirst with being very high! Nice that for once it is just because your body is thirsty I suppose!

Mylittlepuds · 29/01/2013 18:33

Bona - great minds think alike! I was going to try a small snack before bed tonight as the higher night time does seems to be working through the day. Oh please can I stop taking insulin!

Hi Topsy! I'm 28 weeks with DC2. Have DS1 21 months. This baby was a 'surprise' and so HBA1C was 7.5 at conception! Got that down to 6.5 first trimester - then a 5.8 and a 5.7. However - I have NO idea why I have got these results as controlled has not been my forte since about 20 weeks!

Take a seat and have a moan. I'm bloody fed up. Never feel like I can relax Sad

RueDeWakening · 29/01/2013 20:01

Hi Topsy - are you due in June then? I am (technically), EDD 2 June, but delivery between 5-19 May. I'm on DC number 3, I have DD who is 5, DS is 3 next week, and this one on the way.

So I think I've changed my mind about the porridge - have been feeling increasingly rough all day and testing higher than I'd like every single time. Argh. Have put on a temporary basal which hopefully will sort me out, but the sore throat, cough and runny nose that have come on in the last few hours can, frankly, do one.

1u for breakfast.... Hardly worth it really!

BonaDea · 30/01/2013 07:41

Ha ha - 1u! Imagine that. I've just taken 4u with no food to try to stop the morning rise.....!

dieciocho · 30/01/2013 10:52

Welcome topsy.

Yep, porridge and oatcakes have the same effect: great reading after 1 hour, horrible reading after about 3 hours.

I woke up to a reading of 18 at 6am today, which means I must've had a liver dump between 2am and 6am as I tested at 1:30 when baby woke, I expressed and had a banana and some sweets, so went to bed.
Urgh, it took about 3 hours to come down to something vaguely normal!

BonaDea · 30/01/2013 10:58

Ouch Diec - hate that feeling. Can't believe you had all that to eat and still went hypo. Think this BF lark is obviously way more challenging than I imagined!

Everyone (non diabetic) tells me BF is the best diet ever for losing baby weight. I'm a bit concerned that instead I will be eating more than ever and will be a blob afterwards!

SpottyTeacakes · 30/01/2013 13:45

I haven't lost any weight! (I was back in my jeans after three days Wink) but still don't have a waist!

dieciocho · 31/01/2013 06:29

Yeah, I had losing weight as my 2nd reason for breastfeeding (1st being healthy for baby etc etc).
However, I still look about 3 or 4 months pregnant. Yes, I know V arrived less than 4 weeks ago, but still!
My mum keeps saying she thinks my tummy is smaller each time she sees me, but I still feel the need to dress carefully to hide it.
DP's b-day in 2 weeks and want to wear something "normal" ie. pre-pregnancy.

Hopingforno2 · 31/01/2013 12:26

Hi how is everyone doing?

Honestly i hope to get bf this time round but have no intention of worrying about weight loss i spent soo much time after ds watching my diet etc that i felt it interfered with me enjoying those baby months.

Soo last night i was 4.4 before bed so ate i biscuit and was 10.4 at 6.30am?!!took 2u and only came down to 8.2 by 9am :(

dieciocho · 31/01/2013 20:26

hoping, I'm really not worrying about weight - my normal anti-hypo snack during breastfeeding is biscuits! I've eaten more biscuits in the last couple of weeks than in the entire past year.
Maybe I should start thinking about weight a little bit as I want to be back in my size 10 jeans by DP's birthday in 2 weeks. Hmmmm. I'd better get on top of this hypoing nonsense.

dieciocho · 31/01/2013 20:28

Oh and that morning blood sugar stuff sounds like dawn phenomenon to me hoping.

Mylittlepuds · 31/01/2013 20:42

Hoping I had a very similar thing this morning - 7ish through the night and then by 7.30am without eating I was 11!! I just had my breakfast and took an extra unit and like you was about 9 after two hours. I'm happy with 9 after two hours at the mo...not long for us now Hoping!!! Uh oh! Nine weeks for me if induced at 37 weeks.

In other news I was absolutely RAVENOUS for cereal earlier and as I'd already had my dinner and taken 11u I only had 4u with it, thinking I'd be covered. Big mistake. I'm now at 15.5! It really upsets me when this happens and I don't know why. I worry it makes the baby struggle until things are back on an even keel. Am I just making this up?!

I breastfed for 10 months with DS. I did get my figure back of sorts...but I think you retain a bit of chunkiness while you're a BFing that you don't lose until you stop. I think it's to make sure you have enough fat to keep you going! It really, really helps suck that stomach back in though. That's for sure. I actually had contractions pulling it back in, which are triggered by BFing. My friends who didn't bf say they didn't have the contractions and one has struggled to get rid of that weird pouch thing you get. God that sounds quite bitchy. I'm a nice friend, promise!
