I seem to have filled up the old thread and thought I better start a new one! Grin Still got ages to go, don't leave me now...

Am currently sat waiting for my 16 week antenatal appt, been here an hour so far and just had BP done and that's it.

Good luck for tomorrow hoping. Am sure all will be well!

Just had my second and final dose of steroids and all being well I hoping to escape this afternoon. They might have kept me til induction but only if the bp stayed high and / or the steroids sent the levels wild. So far so good on both fronts.

We need a new thread I think!!

Yes! The steroids definitely hurt! Couldn't believe the size of the needle.

Readings overnight all behaved themselves. Started with a 10.2 but lied and told them 9.4 but corrected that and hovered around 5 the rest of the night. Killer being woken every 2 hours to test that and bp! Bp is also falling a bit more.

Reading at 6 am had gone up to 7.3 but that's my standard morning rise. Hope I have now successfully zapped it and so can stay off sliding scale for now.

They want to give another dose of steroids tonight. Do you think that will be it? I am also surprised they are doing them given my stage but all in all don't mind too much!

Hope the other thread babies and bumps are well. Xxx

When I had the steroids I was put on a sliding scale for an hour each time I had two readings over 8 Hmm I was too tired to argue. I'm surprised they're giving you steroids as you're almost term but I think it's a good sign that they're not in a massive rush to deliver and hopefully you can get a normal delivery Smile

Bona good news those steroids bloody hurt don't they?!

Wow that is a lot of insulin I hope you get things sorted quickly and have a good consultant Smile

Bona - yay!! Glad blood pressure come down. When I had steroids for DS the hospital merely asked me to try and keep my levels under 10 as anything else was too much of an ask. It was surprisingly hard so I hope you get on okay. We're all thinking of you!!

God considering I go over 10 several times a day that ketones advice seems v odd!!! Maybe if it had been 14 or something for several hours?

GD lady - hello :-) wow that's a lot of insulin!! I'd insist on
post meal testing. That's the only way you have a clear picture. When I have not corrected after a meal and let my level drift down naturally it often comes into target literally just before I eat. So if I was ignorant to what it had been post meal I'd be thinking it had been perfect when really I'd been hovering around 9 for hours on end. Does that make sense?! Sorry if it's waffle.

Midori - sounds like you are highly insulin resistant. I'd be pushing to get straight back onto insulin as drugs / diet are not going to do the trick.

And you are not hijacking, you're welcome any time Wink

Hoping - eeek I always thought the cut off for testing for ketones was 14!!

Thank you. Yes, they did check me afterwards and once since for type 2. I'm just 9 weeks now and I am already getting readings of 12's post breakfast, so it's worrying me. I think I might just do pre and post readings this week and take my results along and I can discuss it all with them then.

Sorry for the hijack. Blush

midori if its like with your 1st then yes i would ask as u were taking more levemir than i ever have and actually more novorapid too, did they recheck you post pregnancy for type 2? How far along are u? And agree how can u adjust doses if you have no idea whats happening when u eat and thats what i say when they tell me just to test at meals however i have noticed that unless very high if i correct too much i hypo then go high then correct vicious circle lol

bona thats great about ur bp, ive been told to test for ketones with a reading over 10 since around 14 weeks. I hope u have a restful night

Urgh. Keep doing my posts then nothing appears!

So, bp has gone down. Not all the way but higher end of normal instead of just high. I have been admitted for tonight and been given my first dose of steroids. Dreading what they will do to sugars! The doc on duty also said I'm to test urine at any reading over 10! I mean I know that is higher than ideal but hardly ketones territory. Guess they are just being cautious.

For now we are still aiming for Monday for induction rather than earlier but who knows? Am 37 weeks tomorrow (Wednesday) so hardly a disaster.

For the GD lady. I think much depends on their doctor and also their attitude to the cost of test strips (the most expensive bit of diabetes management kit!). But I totally agree that only testing before the next meal is daft. That could be 6 hours during which you have no idea what is going on and therefore can't correct. I would test at the two hour mark as a minimum.

Well last time I was on levimir each night and novo rapid before each meal as diet wasn't controlling enough. I was on 58 units of levimir each night and 25 novo rapid pre breakfast and still getting post breakfast readings in the 10's.

So obviously I'm concerned this time. I suppose I'll just have to ask them at the clinic next week.

Thank you.

I think sometimes with GD you only need the background insulin and the rest is controlled by diet hence no need to test post meals?

Report
midori1999 · 12/03/2013 21:10

Thankyou for answering.

GD can mostly be diet/exercise controlled, but some ladies need insulin. I had to be insulin controlled in my last pregnancy just after diagnosis.

I'm not sure how they will know if/how much insulin I need, if at all if I don't take post meal readings? I am also a control freak...

Report
Hopingforno2 · 12/03/2013 21:03

I think it depends on what hospital/consultant is looking after you. Mines doesnt ask for post meals either but im doing it anyways as im a control freak lol i think gd is a bit different too tho im completley in the dark as to whether u take medication/insulin or diet controlled?

midori1999 · 12/03/2013 20:53

Sorry to butt in, but I have GD for the second time and unlike in my last pregnancy (at a different hospital) I have been asked this time to check my blood glucose before meals only and before bed. No post meal readings at all. I am confused as to why this is, can anyone shed any light on it at all?

Eeeeek! Am about to be admitted!

Came to clinic today hoping for a sweep. Instead told my blood pressure has rocketed and they want to bring me in for pre eclampsia monitoring and potentially to give me steroids in case I need a section in the next day or so.

Cervix completely unfavourable so far so all my stuff not working so far. My bag isn't even properly ready and all the clothes I wanted to bring in are in the washing machine Shock

Keep you posted. Xxx

Thanks for your lovely message Hoping!!!

I'm here! I'm so sorry for going AWOL - have been having t'internet ishoos. I bet you all thought I was having a hypo in a bush somewhere Smile

How is everyone? What have I missed? Any more thread babies?!

At last but one growth scan the baby's stomach off the centile chart and so it was panic stations...37 week induction etc. Risk of shoulder dystocia.

BUT last growth scan it had remained the same rather than going into an 'unprintable area' which is what happened with DS sooooooooo they've all relaxed a bit. As have I. And we're hoping for 38 weeks now.

Sooooo from 37 weeks I'm on operation get baby OUT. Sex, walking, sweeps, erm, nipple twiddling...

But I suppose it could be all change at next growth scan so fingers crossed :-)

Hoping we might be new baby buddies!
