Showing unusually early

I am wondering if anyone else has had a bump as early as me. I am 8 weeks and 4 days. I know this as I have had a scan already (for other medical reasons). Prior to the scan I thought I was much further along, purely because of my size.I have got a bump and have gone up a bra size and put on half a stone. People have been asking if I'm pregnant for two weeks. Is this normal?

I know it's normal to gain weight and I shouldn't worry. but I haven't come across anyone else showing this early. It isn't twins either.

With this pregnancy I wasn't able to fit in my clothes from about 4 weeks pregnant and was wearing maternity clothes from about 8 weeks. All pregnancies are differrent. Being big early on doesn't mean you will be big all the way through your pregnancy either.

Like you, my husband and I were convinced it must be twins because I was never big early on with my other pregnancies.

It often depends how good your stomach muscles are, how much water you are carrying and how the baby is lying.

I am so relieved. I am wearing maternity clothes too. Thanks, both, for sharing

I am a nicely rounded shape too and only 10 weeks!
Going to make some maternity tops soon as want lots of black and lace!!!

noblegiraffe · 14/12/2012 12:45

A lot of my bump in the early weeks turned out to be bloating as it didn't get much bigger for ages.

BuntysFestiveCollocks · 14/12/2012 12:50

I woke up with a bump at 11 weeks, but it kind of stayed that size until I was past six months and then ballooned

Your stomach muscles are fucked shot from last time, nothing to hold things in place. Just be careful with how you dress! Despite having a bump, no one knew until after my scan, and then it was "Where have you been hiding THAT?!"

SevenElvesAndAReindeer · 14/12/2012 12:51

I'm 16 weeks, looking a good 7 months though! I haven't put on any weight either Hmm

sleeplessinsuburbia · 14/12/2012 12:55

I always show early. My dr suggested some people bloat more/earlier.

MyNameIsLola · 14/12/2012 13:03

I'm 8+5 and definitely have quite a visible little bump. I absolutely don't want anyone knowing but luckily, at this time of year it's a bit easier to hide under baggy jumpers Smile.

LimeLeafLizard · 14/12/2012 13:04

Are you very slim? IME slim people (so not me then!) tend to show earlier because there is less body to hold the pg on, iyswim? Otherwise, like other people have said, could well just be bloating that goes down before you really start to get a big bump. The water could account for your weight gain, too.

notdueforages · 14/12/2012 16:28

slim-ish i suppose. I am 5ft 7 and was 9 and a half stone, am now 10. I don't look fat, it's all bump and boobs. I look 6 months pregnant

Am greatly reassured to know others have been big so early. People have been so vocal and blunt about their surprise bastards

Someone offered me the pregnant lady seat on the tube when I was 6+2 Blush

I've been massive from the off although think much of it early on was bloat thanks to delightful IVF drugs. Have stayed big, and now at 24+1 and running a daily gauntlet of 'haven't you had that baby yet' and 'are you sure there is just one in there'.......

Fluffeh · 14/12/2012 19:15

Yep me too. Me and DP were convinced it was twins but at both of my scans the sonographer has said in a shocked voice "oh there's just one in there".
I'm 20+4 now and look bigger than my friend who's 28 weeks!
It's my first too. I was pretty slim before but now my boobs, bum and belly are all huge lol.

jinglebellyalltheway · 14/12/2012 19:18

I always get a bloat bump to start with, its not a real bump as your fundus isn't that high! and have to wear maternity clothes v early on, then get to wear normal clothes again around the end of the 1st trimester before the real bump comes

worsestershiresauce · 14/12/2012 19:47

It's all bloat I'm afraid. At 8 weeks your uterus is about the size of an orange, which is tiny in the grand scheme of things.

Librarina · 14/12/2012 19:55

I loved my bloat-bump! It was the only clue I was pregnant, that and the massive boobs cos I wasn't really sick or anything else. 15 weeks now and the bloat is now a proper little hillock.

Mutley77 · 18/12/2012 20:34

Yes I started showing at 8 wks, and now in some clothes it is blatantly obvious (I'm 13 wks). I know that it isn't baby - just bloating and water but it is funny how it does sit like a bump, I have only put on 3lbs and normally my weight would definitely not go directly on my tummy so is definitely related. I assumed as it is number 3 that my stomach is just shot.
I am mostly hiding it with clothes but otherwise am just brazening it out and waiting for people to ask!!

ChicaT · 19/12/2012 01:27

Very happy to hear I'm not the only one! I had put on 2 kg by 4 weeks - hadn't eaten any differently but certainly had a bump. I have a sensitive tummy so I think this has a lot to do with it...plus terrible constipation for the whole of Tri 2. I'm now 14 + 2 and I swear I look 6 months! It's ridiculous. Big boobs, bigger bum, quite depressing really! AND I'm still going to the gym. Pre pregnancy I was a size 8, flat tummy, 5'9 and 8.5/9 stone so this giant body is a bit of a shock! Shock I finally gave up on non-maternity clothes at week 13...now it's lovely soft leggings and empire dresses all the way. I think we should start an 'Unreasonably Large Early Pregnancy Bump' club!

notdueforages · 19/12/2012 10:51

Worsestershiresauce: I realise it's all bloat...didn't think it was baby Smile. Don't care WHAT it is, just so alarming to be the same size as 20 week friend Blush
