Hi all

Will be 11 weeks tomorrow following a miscarriage last year. Had terrible lower back ache for past two evenings. I am terrified that I something is wrong and history is repeating itself. I thought once I got near 12 weeks I would be 'safer'. Is it common for people to miscarry after this time???

Dpind, don't worry, I have had back ache for a couple of weeks and I am only 7 weeks! You might find sitting in a different position will help, also some people have complained of back ache through constipation.

If you are really worried see your midwife, but I would say it is pretty normal.

Hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy.

desperatehousewife · 11/04/2006 19:21

i've had lower backache early in preg too - if i sit in one position too long it gets really achey

LexB · 12/04/2006 20:56

I must be exactly the same stage as you as am 11 weeks today with baby 2. Are you due 1st November? Hope your backache has improved. I'm dead anxious too about miscarriage and have been even since got the bfp. You'd think I'd be less worried 2nd time round but obviously doesn't work like that! But I'm sure our chances must be improving all the time - when is your scan? Mine is Thurs 20th - can't wait. Keep fingers crossed for both of us. All the best.

dpind · 13/04/2006 09:02

Hi LexB

Yes I'm due 1st November too. Have you had a miscarriage in the past?? I have woke up with period pain this morning although have been having this on and off since I found out I was pregnant. I've already had my scan at 8 wks due to me getting the pain....everything looked normal thank god!. Still doesn't stop me worrying though after last time. I am due to see my midwife this morning so hoefully she can give me some reassurance!

I had backache in both my pregnancy's really early. ie- between 2-8 weeks!!!

Your ligaments and spine are adjusting to carry your little load!

desperatehousewife · 13/04/2006 10:17

dpind and lex i'm a week behind you girls! i'm 10 weeks + 4 and have my scan on 24th. Am petrified!

Calmriver · 13/04/2006 11:24

Desperate Housewife-why are you petrified? You will always be told about the scary stats!

In SA you have scans from 6 weeks on..every month from then. They are so clued up!

Have faith that all will be fine! I'm sure it will.xxx

Lio · 13/04/2006 11:49

Fingers crossed for you dpind, I also had backache from about 4 weeks every pregnancy, 2 x m/c and 2 x successful. Just bad luck to get ache-y so early I think. Will your doc refer you for physio so you can be doing the right exercises?

desperatehousewife · 13/04/2006 11:50

Cal - i had a recent stillbirth.

desperatehousewife · 13/04/2006 12:00

I'm really sorry about answering that - should have kept gob shut! Really don't want to put downer on anything. Really am sorry....Sad

LexB · 13/04/2006 13:07

Heh, don't worry about it deperate housewife. Just really sorry to hear that has happened to you. No wonder you're worried. Guess have to remember that every pregnancy is different - will you get more monitoring as a result of what happened before?

Dpind - let us know how you got on with the midwife. There are lots of normal aches and pains associated with normal preg so am hoping it's just that.

I feel bad myself now for moaning cos I haven't actually experienced the sadness of miscarriage or still birth myself (only through other people) so I should touch wood and count myself the lucky one..
xxx

desperatehousewife · 13/04/2006 13:11

it's a terrifying experience for most people i think - regardless of whether they have had a bad experience or not. Particulary at the early stages - as you just have no indication of how things are progressing. I remember when I was pregnant for the first time with DS I worried about every single ache and spasm and pain - because all sorts of new aches suddenly appear for no apparent reason!

But I do think it's very normal for backache in early preg - I have experienced it - there's all sorts of things happening in there that we can't see - ligaments are stretching and loosening etc!

Roll on the 12 week scan eh?!! Grin

dpind · 13/04/2006 15:14

Hi

Just been to see midwife. She has referred me for another scan even though I only had one 2.5 wks ago. I think more to reassure me than that she thinks anything wrong. Still feeeling very sickly and can't brush my teeth without gipping....think that's suppossed to be a good sign though!??

that's great!

Bozza · 13/04/2006 16:21

Definitely understand the worries from those of you who have suffered previous miscarriage/stillbirth. However I am in the lucky position of having had two perfectly healthy pregnancies and I had lower back ache in the first trimester with both - ligament stretching - so it is perfectly normal.

bourneville · 13/04/2006 16:21

good luck all of you. Just wanted to say, i remember in early pregnancy reading that backache is normal even that early.
I didn't find out i was pg till I was 8 weeks gone, and I remember agonising over when my period was coming (was accidental) because I kept on feeling the symptoms - period pains etc etc but of course it never came! So keep your fingers crossed and try not to worry. :)
