I'm so scared that i've miscarriaged. The Early Pregnancy Unit have said that no heartbeat has been seen yet due to size of baby. Has anyone experienced this and had a happy outcome???

I'm sorry I can't help you with this. I hope you have a positive outcome. Xxx

hi mickellwife, did they book you in for a repeat scan or change your dates? Is it possible that you're just less far along than you thought? xx

TodaysAGoodDay · 13/12/2012 10:37

The heartbeat is first seen between 6 and 8 weeks, so there will always be a few who are not detected at your stage. Also I second what suzy said about dates, even a few days out would make a difference. Good luck x

Also meant to add, at 7 weeks the foetus measures 4-5mm.

I have same problem, I'm supposed to be 6wks by lmp but I know for a fact I ovulated late as didn't dtd at the fertile days of a cycle it was only after cycle day 16. I had an early scan yest and all they could pick up was a sac, there saying it measures between 5&6 weeks. After waiting 3hrs for doctor's opinion they now say its too early to see anything so I've got to wait till Christmas eve to be scanned again, its horrible not knowing whats going off xx

It must be really hard but don't panic, it is early days and that may be why heartbeat wasn't seen. I just saw yesterday that there is new guidance that a miscarriage should not be diagnosed without waiting until 13 weeks and doing a repeat scan- due to the possibility of heart beat just not being seen.

I'm sure it will be difficult waiting but there's a good chance of a happy outcome.

I have a repeat scan on monday. I have read so many websites and each one has a different measurement that baby is supposed to be at certain weeks. It's hard as the only symptoms i have is sore boobs and constipation and occasionly peeing loads. I'm not moaning about not having symptoms as i have a sick phobia :(

I had scan at 7+3 and was told could see small thing that might be sac but too small to measure and no fetal pole. Was confidently told that either I had my dates wrong (not possible with when I had positive test) or that I would miscarry. Both statements wrong. 11 days later they saw the baby with a heartbeat, measuring to dates. In fact at the 12 week scan they actually moved my dates forwards rather than backwards, and she was born at 38 weeks very healthy 7lb baby. My dd is now 8 and still perfectly healthy.

I have subsequently found out that early scans can be unreliable in some women who have a tilted uterus (which is not that uncommon).

So I hope that this has given you some hope. If you want more, then read the posts on the misdiagnosed miscarriage website.

However I will temper this with the fact that I have also had 12 miscarriages and having a scan that shows behind dates can indicate a failing pregnancy too. The important thing is to try to relax and know that there is still a chance and try to distract yourself as much as possible until your next scan.

I hope you have a positive outcome.

Willitbe that reassures me lots my womb is tilted but she didn't mention that it could be a problem. Thankyou :) xx
