I know I shouldn't really be surprised by this but OMG I am getting so fat!

And I am only about halfway. Will I ever go back to the way I was before? Am I going to keep getting bigger for the rest of the pregnancy? How on earth would that work? I just look so huge already.

Today I am feeling a strong "what is happening to me" panic.

The muscle layer of your uterus (womb) grows dramatically and weighs an extra 0.9kg (2lb).
Your blood volume increases and weighs an extra 1.2kg (2.6lb).
You have extra fluid in your body weighing about 1.2kg (2.6lb).
Your breasts weigh an extra 0.4kg (0.9lb).
You'll store fat, about 4kg (8.8lb), to give you energy for breastfeeding.

I wasn't meaning that being fat was awful, looking back it kind of reads like that.
I just mean - Heeeelp everything is changing so much!
My breasts are just enormous! I don't know what to DO with them!

I always wonder how much of the above weights will be lost pretty much straight away after the birth - obviously the weight of the baby itself and the amniotic fluid and placenta but what else??

Don't worry! Lol I feel like that at the min. Had only put on 2 pounds until I hit the 20 week mark, and here I am at 26 weeks and 13 pounds heavier . It came on so quick! But hey ho its for a good cause

I had put not put on an ounce until I was about 21 weeks - am now 27 weeks and have put on 10lbs in the past 6 weeks! However I did put on 2.5 stone in my last pregnancy so I'm hoping I won't manage to replicate that in the next 13 weeks.....

On the upside, I did lose a stone immediately after the birth (7lb 5oz of baby), and a further stone the following week so it did come off quickly.

I remember announcing to table ful of female family members at about 30 weeks that sure I was going to get much bigger....oh how they laughed.

I was like a weeble. It ends up being a kind of novelty.

I think you'll feel less fat once you get to looking definitely pregnant (eg at the point where a stranger would recognise you as pregnant rather than overweight) - I know that was true for me and a lot of friends I've spoken to!

Oh, and yes you will get back to looking similar to pre pregnancy - some even get back to lo

Looking the same as before! I gained nearly 5st and it took me about 18 months to lose but I wasn't really making much effort to lose any, only difference now is looser skin on my tummy, and bigger boobs :)

I put on five stone, lost 1.5 immediately and was back to normal six months later. I really never thoughht i would recover but I did...hips bit wides, an inch or two extra on waist but fundamentally the same weight and shape. Not so sure the second time around though....i do feel enormous at 28 weeks.

I'm at the stage where I just look fat, not pregnant. I can no longer stand with my hands on my hips as I have no waist so they just slide off...and I'm only 11 weeks eek! I'm actually finding it really scary as I've always been slim and I just don't feel like ME!

I put on 40lbs - one a week, every week! I had problems with blood pressure and ballooned with water weight.

I lost 20 lbs within 5 days of DD's birth - the night sweats (in January!!) were crazy but it got rid of the water very fast! I was back to pre-preg weight within 6 months and at 11 months I'm a stone lighter. With the help of low-carbing

Ooh btw if you do put on a lot of weight, esp water weight, check your rings every week at least - a friend of mine had to have her rings cut off as her fingers swelled up so much!

Ladies can I chirp in!!! I'm such a fat bird I actually look like the big bird from angry birds!!!!! Have reached 27 weeks and had to run out to get maternity wear!!! 1 day things could fit the next it couldn't! Being very careful not to over eat as I have noticed the more dc you have the bigger you get earlier!!!
Also noticed a some of you due in march! My dd is 13/3/13!!!

I have been in maternity trousers for weeks already!

If it's any consolation... my weight was shooting up in the first six to seven months, I could literally see the numbers on the scales inching up before my very eyes. It was terrifying.

But since then, things have slowed down (not that I've paid more attention to my eating habits) and I'm happy to report that I'm all bump at 38 weeks. It's a huge relief as I just didn't understand how my weight could be piling on so fast.

I think, unless you're gorging on chocolate and cake, the weight you gain is what your body needs to make a healthy baby... so just go with the flow.

Put on 3 stone with DD1! Was slim to start with - but was back to Pre baby weight within three months. This time round have not been so hungry - still have waves of morning sickness and am 19 weeks tomorrow. Still wearing my normal clothes - want to look pregnant! Sure I will put more on soon enough - just wish I could eat more.

I am also hugely fat. I have always been slim too so a bit of a shock to the system! I thought I'd just have to buy slightly bigger tops to fit my belly but otherwise be much the same.

I'm 30 weeks and I feel like an elephant.

I'm 19 weeks and have gained nearly a stone. Am fairly gutted. It's all seem to come on the last 2 weeks but I have no one but myself to blame. I've been eating nothing but rubbish and had three takeouts in a week. Bloody shameful.

Every day I wake up saying I'm going to be good then never am. I'm going to be the size of a blimp by the time I'm finished if I'm not careful. And I wasn't exactly skinny to begin with so have to be careful!

Don't mean to hijack the thread OP! But am just worrying that I have not been weighing myself and it sounds as if most of your lovely ladies on here have been/did. I haven't weighed myself in years (past eating disorder issues mean I avoid the scales) but now I am 26 weeks I am suddenly wondering if I should have had some kind of base-line so I know how much I am putting on!!

I am doing it all by 'feel' and I certainly don't feel as if I have put on excess weight, my bump is measuring normal for this stage I was told just last week and (through what I think is clever redistribution of fat) I actually think my love handles have if anything reduced since being pg!

But have I been silly not to weigh myself? Should I know how much I am putting on?

emerald I certainly wldnt make a point of weighing urself (esp with your history if u don't mind me sayin) but doesn't ur midwife weigh you? I've only had 2 mw appt's at 22 wks now (as this is my 3rd) and they weighed me and put it in my notes. If u don't feel like u've put weight on, then tht's fine! I know tht I've def got bigger earlier this time and have been in maternity clothes since bout 14 wks but still the same size iyswim. Our bodies are jst doin wot they're supposed to if u ask me! (And I'm sticking to tht wen I've put another 2 stone on too )

emerald I'd say that you do whats best for you - and if you don't want to watch the scales, there's no need to suddenly start.

I'm not weighing but am pretty obsessed with my size and shape in the mirror together with which clothes are no longer fitting (none of my work trousers, but my stretchy primarni jeans are fine - and I am so very happy today is a dress down day at work!)

I'm at 15 weeks and my body feels so strange and different on some days - like its not quite 'me' and then other days it feels completely natural and I get quite protective of my newly emerging belly.

No you don't need to weigh yourself. I only went and did it because I saw this thread and was curious. If you feel ok then that's fine.

My midwife weighed me at my booking appointment but hasn't done after that. I don't think it's as important as things such as the size of your bump etc.
