Hello! With Christmas so close I'm hoping that the evil sickness will stop soon and that I'll be back to enjoying eating in time for the big day! I think I read somewhere that smoked salmon is ok in pregnancy but can't find that info now. Anyone know?
Also I'm really fancying some lucozade at the moment! I don't really drink much tea or coffee- is lucozade ok?
Stupid questions I suppose- I'm over thinking everything at the moment and I'm driving myself insane! X

Hey AmI you can eat smoked salmon in pregnancy as long as it's in date and stored at the correct temperature. Here is a link to the NHS guidance

www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/eating-smoked-fish-and-cold-meats-during-pregnancy.aspx?CategoryID=54&SubCategoryID=216#close

I'm sure Lucozade is ok in moderation - I'd worry about too much sugar and the sunset yellow colouring in some and extra added caffeine in some of the more sporty ones. However, I'm a bit of an avoider of refined sugars where possible (sometimes a pregnant lady just gotta eat cake tho... or mince pies... Xmas Wink However, the NHS use Lucozade to test for gestational diabetes (original version) so I'm sure it's not that bad.

HTH :)

My m/w told me smoked salmon isn't ok to eat!?! Sad

rrreow · 12/12/2012 23:08

Did she give a reason chocorocco? As long as it hasn't been sitting around at room temperature there isn't any reason why you shouldn't eat it. It's not raw so doesn't carry the risks of eating for example raw salmon.

Your m/w is contradicting the NHS guidance then choco... Mine has done this on a few things too. If they can't back it up with any evidence I would ignore. But then I don't like my m/w very much anway!! The advice in the US is that you shouldn't eat any smoked fish or deli produce like cured ham. We don't take such a strict stance in the UK. Here's another link I've used before www.food.gov.uk/multimedia/pdfs/.../eatingwhilepregnant1209.pdf This is published by the government food standards agency and doesn't mention salmon. HTH :)

I could never understand it! There was a reason although can't think what sorry, i asked when i was 7 weeks and i'm now 38 wks. long time ago

This is what the NHS says at present:
Cold cured meats include salami, parma ham, chorizo and pepperoni. Some countries advise pregnant women to avoid eating cold cured meats or smoked fish as there is a small risk of these foods harbouring listeria, or the toxoplasma parasite that causes toxoplasmosis. Currently in the UK we don't advise pregnant women to avoid these products. However, if you are at all concerned, you might choose to avoid cured meats and smoked fish while you are pregnant.
The Food Standards Agency is reviewing its toxoplasmosis and listeria advice to vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, and we'll post the reviewed advice on this page as soon as it's available.

I was totally going to have smoked salmon at Christmas and I still will, I'm sure I did last time too!
