I found a cure to this while in labour, the midwife pointed a fan at my feet and cooled them down and miraculously they stopped jumping, since then whenever they start out comes the fan and it always works.

It is very irritating isn't it?
I had that in both pregnancies and Dh had to move in to the spare room permanently

I never found anything to prevent it but Clarins does a green fluid that cools on application and feels wonderful. I don't know exactly what it is called but it has 'Loudres jambon' - heavy legs in the title. It doesn't help you kick the habit (coudn't resist) but it sure makes your legs feel good

There's a condition called "restless legs syndrome" or "rls". I had it in pregnancy and there is a family history of it - my Nan (now in her nineties) has had it for years. It can be due to a vitamin or iron deficiency. Did any of you have "growing pains" as children? These are linked to rls. If you are interested it might be worth doing an internet search on the subject. From what I can remember the advise was to avoid caffeine and eat bananas!
